Does any body know why a file which looks great on the screen and which was saved as a jpeg with an embedded srgb colour profile, look like a muddy, flat colourless piece of crap when printed on a Fuji Frontier.

I have a Minolta Dimage 35mm film scanner and I end up having to do a lot of work in Photoshop to remove the dust specs. Without building a clean room of sorts, does anyone have any tips on how to reduce the amount of dust on my shots?
