As a digicam newbie I am mostly happy with the large depth of field offered. However, I occasionally want to minimize it, eg to hilight the subject of a shot by defocusing the background. Unfortunately I only have a CX7330 happy-snapper, a bit short on the manual

Could anyone suggest a small handheld exposure meter that doesn't need batteries ? I'm thinking of a Gossen Sixtino2 , but if you know of any other brands/types I'd have more Ebay options ;)

I was wondering if it is possible to change the plastic tripod thread on my camera (oly c765) to a metal one? Im just scared that i will screw my tripod on too tight and crack it! Or not tight enough and my camera will fall off... :-/

I have a new canon eos 20d with a efs 17-85mm lens and a 580 ex flash. I need a portable solution for backlighting when taking photos. The lighting is good on the subject, but the background is dark and I get shadows when holding the camera sideways.
