I have some small pieces of relatively flat artwork that I'd like to photograph. I know the obvious, that is: use a tripod, shoot as close to a 90 degree angles as possible, bracket the shot, and use a white background, but is there anything crucial I'm forgetting?

I am about to purchase this Canon and was wondering if anyone knows when a replacement model will be introduced. This camera was reviews back in Aug 03, which makes this an old model in modern day terms. Most companies are coming out with new models every 6 months.
