Selling old cameras and lenses on Ebay28 Nov 2007 21:01 GMT6
I am thinking of selling my Olympus kit.
Looking at how much things go for, most lenses go for under £30 but
occassionally some go for a lot more. I've just seen a Tamron 500mm
mirror lens go for £102 - can anybody suggest why?
DSLR options - your opinions welcomed23 Nov 2007 19:39 GMT25
Rather out of the blue, my wife has suggested that it might be a good idea
to move up to a DSLR as our joint Christmas present this year. The main
benefit we're looking for is the better dymanic range for DSLRs, and
generally better performance in low light conditions
Converting slides to jpeg21 Nov 2007 13:39 GMT18
Prompted by reading a previous post!
Given that I have say 500 slides which I would like to convert to jpeg so
that I can keep and view them on my computer. What is likely to be the best
way of getting the slides converted.  Taking them to a shop? Trying to hire
Choosing a new camera, help/advice please21 Nov 2007 00:36 GMT35
I'm looking at buying a new digital camera in the (hopefully/probably)
sub £200, or maybe around £200 sort of price range.
It can be either a 'point and shoot' or maybe (and this is where I'm
looking hardest) one of the cameras like the Fuji S5700 and S6500.
Gimmick-reduced digital camera?17 Nov 2007 10:07 GMT4
I used to use a Carl Zeiss (Jena) 35 mm, which had the three traditional
controls and a few rarely-used extras, but it is heavy and bulky and I
am getting too old to carry extra weight when walking.
I have been borrowing my wife's Olympus Mju, and find it the most
The good old days of film... NOT15 Nov 2007 23:27 GMT12
Using a Nikon 5000ED scanner I have scanned in around 5000
transparencies, and hundreds of strip negatives.
Each was scanned to a 130MB TIFF, then rotated losslessly if required,
then batch converted with Photoshop 7 into Jpeg using the "highest
Does anyone know anything about this film scanner?15 Nov 2007 18:57 GMT3
I just saw this in a recent flyer from CPC and looked it up on their
web site, very few details:-

Does anyone know anything about it?  Speed, quality, etc.?
How crappy is Nikon 5000ED software these days?13 Nov 2007 11:50 GMT4
I bought the 5000ED and a bulk slide feeder ~ 3 years ago, for about
£1300, for the single purpose of scanning in 5000 slides for which the
lowest commercial quote was £2500 :)
It did the job OK, with many software crashes...
Which DSLR?12 Nov 2007 23:04 GMT12
I am brand new to photography and have been using a Sony Cybershot W55
compact for a few months as a basic point and shoot device for
holidays/family etc and for that purpose it's great (although I do wish I'd
bought a Canon but that's another story....).

Olympus deal09 Nov 2007 11:55 GMT5
I see that Currys are doing an offer on the E410SE + 17-45 lens with the
40-150 and a case for the price of the camera - £349.
Is this a good buy or is this camera not up to scratch - whatever the
'SE' version is. I notice it has a plastic lens mount which would tend

Doesn't seem much of a bargain to me.

REFURBRISHED07 Nov 2007 19:28 GMT8
What does the "refurbrished" term means ?
What is the difference between "brand new" and the second one ?
I'm  going to buy "refurbrished" camera.
Better to buy brand new or the refurbrished (lower price!) ???
