scanners29 Feb 2004 18:33 GMT2
Can anyone in the group help me?
I am digitising some old transparencies/slides but am finding it difficult
to obtain a scanner for the size of slide.
These measure 7cm x 7cm. Twice the size of the normal 35mm.

Alpha in Photoshop Elements28 Feb 2004 18:42 GMT1
Can't decide whether this is on-topic, but in hope:
Can Photoshop Elements (v2) save a TIFF with an alpha channel? Elements
supports transparency internally, although it never refers to alpha, and
it has a TIFF option of "Save Transparency", but this doesn't seem to

How many pixels is enough?27 Feb 2004 11:25 GMT53
I've got an ink-jet printer that is claimed to be able to lay ink down at
2880 dpi. (I'm not sure if that's both horizontal and vertical, but let's
assume it is). If I want to make an A3 print - say 10 in. by 16 in, at the
printer's rated performance, and I don't want either the ...
Ilford Mail-Order Processing26 Feb 2004 19:28 GMT1
Recently bought an Ilford photo processing mailer - would like to add
an extra set of prints but there doesn't seem to be an option on the
envelope (bigger sizes yes, extra sets no).
The 0990 phone number they give on the envelope appears to be dead.

Mirror Lenses26 Feb 2004 14:19 GMT7
I have a Centon 500 F8 mirror lens, which I like for its size and
compactness, but feel that the image quality could be a lot better. I
know that Tamron and Sigma both make mirror lenses: has anyone any
experience of using these and better still would anyone know if they
Nikon SB28DX26 Feb 2004 09:14 GMT4
I realise this the Nikon SB28 DX flash is designed primarily for the digital
Nikons, but will it work properly with my F100 ?

Which printer?25 Feb 2004 21:53 GMT2
I'm looking for advice on photo-quality printers.  Since I use film and
scan, I don't need a printer which accepts a camera directly or which
handles various memory devices (although I appreciate that most printers
do this nowadays).  I've got a HP Deskjet for text printing which ...
Compact Flash for EOS1D?23 Feb 2004 22:13 GMT4
I've got a second-hand EOS1D on it's way to me but without any memory.
I'm looking at buying a GB of memory, possibly as two 500MB CF cards.
What recommendations do readers have in this respect?
Manufactures, 4x, 8x 16x 32x speed etc, UK suppliers? That sort of thing.
LCP - Studio Photography23 Feb 2004 10:15 GMT2
I wondered whether someone has taken the LCP course in Studio Photography
in London, Elephant & Castle, and can tell me what his/her
experience/impression was? I phoned them up but they couldn't tell me more
than there is on their website, which is quite comprehensive...

Shipping lenses from USA - how much tax/duty ?22 Feb 2004 15:35 GMT5
