When taking portraits, how important is it to have "light in the hair"?

what you like & dislike about them.  I'm considering the X-800 &

I take individual photographs of  children at sports events. A problem I
have is getting them to smile naturally. Sometimes I can not get them to
smile (especially the children ages 5 - 8). Does anyone have any
suggestions/tips ?

Hi, I have been taking portraits of subjects against a white
background. In an attempt to get rid of shadows, I have started
lighting the background with 2 tungsten 500 watt lights and then using
fill flash on the subject. This has worked beautifully, except that

I take individual photographs of children at sporting events. A problem I

I understand the single model concept of legal permission for commercial
purposes, but when a photographer takes a photo of an example such as a
crowd or small group of people at the zoo does he or she need permission
(written) from all the people recognizable before that photo ...

I use a Nikon digital SLR camera. (perhaps the question is which digital
camera should I use?)
What flash equipment do members recommend using for long, 4 hours,
wedding/social events.

I have a requests to shoot set of B&W photos of a mother and her toddler. She's
looking for tastfull nudity. Any suggestions for poses? Thanks, bob
