Film Scanner28 Feb 2004 23:50 GMT2
Since I cannot afford digital equipment (nor do I have any particular
desire to use it at the present time), I was curious about film
scanners.  I've seen *nothing* so far that is capable of handling 4x5
film.  Perhaps I've not looked well enough, but I wonder if anyone might

Found way to make cheap soft box28 Feb 2004 17:17 GMT3
I'm new to photography and on a budget (who is not) so I had to find a
way to make a soft box until I can buy a real one. I used a box, one
that fits reams of paper for copy machines, cut a hole in the back,
lined the inside with tin foil (glued it down, hot glue may work
White Lightning X800 or AlienBees B800?23 Feb 2004 00:54 GMT1
I am looking to purchase my first studio flash and I'm considering a White
Lightning X800 or an AlienBees B800. Judging by specs alone, they are both
very similar. Does anyone have experience with one or both units to suggest
I go one way or another?

wireless 550EX in manual mode with 420EX15 Feb 2004 15:35 GMT1
Is it possible to set the 550EX in manual mode with a 420EX as a
slave? I've tried the setup in E-TTL mode without any problem but when
the 550EX is set to manual mode, the 420EX is not firing. Am I doing
something wrong or the 420EX is not supported when the 550EX is in
Advice on Minolta Autometer IVF problem please.13 Feb 2004 22:53 GMT1
I have a Minolta Autometer IVF. Up until now I've only used it for ambient
light metering, for which it has been fine.
Now, at my photography club, we are starting a studio group, and here's
where the funny situation starts....

Backdrop supplier08 Feb 2004 00:01 GMT5
I'm new to the group. I'm just starting out (who isn't, right?) and I
was wondering if anyone knows of some suppliers that have nice
backdrops. I was checking out ebay and there are a few that I'm
interested in, but I thought I would try here first. I'm looking for

Can anyone recommend a good UK insurance company to supply cover for my
Canon XL1-S video camera (about 2000 UK pounds)?  I'd like cover for theft
and accidental damage.

How to display/protect cameras05 Feb 2004 03:05 GMT1
I've got a number of oldish cameras that I wish to display (instead of
hiding them in gadget bags). I have seen somewhere someone using
plastic transparent containers (circular base and a dome-like plastic
container that screws into the base) for this purpose.
