Rapid Rectilinear lens baffles29 Jun 2006 11:28 GMT18
I have a Rapid Rectilinear in need of lens cleaning. The front and rear
elements have black baffles presumably to cut out the outer peripheral
rays (sorry for pseudo-optic speak) and improve it's performance...
I don't want to slop fluids between the glass and baffles to clean
Goerz 19" Red Dot Image Circle21 Jun 2006 08:44 GMT4
I've been looking on the web but have not found out what the coverage
for a Goerz Red Dot 19" APO Artar is. I have a Deardorff 8x10.
Thanks.
Stolen Gear20 Jun 2006 18:11 GMT26
A fellow large format photographer had his pack snatched
in Yosemite. You can read about it and what's missing

Calumet 4x5 question20 Jun 2006 02:04 GMT5
i own an older Calumet CC 401 4x5 camera and was wondering if there was any
way (conventional, or otherwise) to modify this camera to take a 5x7 back? i
don't know if they made a 5x7  in that family, or if any other maker's back
would be able to work. i'm assuming too that the ...
broken ground glass15 Jun 2006 18:44 GMT5
Any way to make the ground glass for a 4x5?
What kind of glass to have cut?
How easy is it to insert, etc?
Linhof technica III wide angle problems (65mm)10 Jun 2006 13:11 GMT4
I recently bought a linhof techinca III (version 4) for a good price.
I got a 65 mm, 150mm and a 240mm lense included in the price.
However, I have some problems focusing with the 65 mm lense, since it has
to be very close to the film plane. This means that it is almost falling
Boring Newsgroup Posters10 Jun 2006 03:16 GMT15
A couple of posters have had fun with questions I've posted to this
group. It's sad they need to buttress their egos by belittling and
disrespecting others, even though they sometimes have good knowledge to
share. You may know more than another, but that doesn't give you the

Incident Light Readings04 Jun 2006 04:08 GMT7
I don't have the time or money to experiment, so I'm posing this
question: Why can't taking a landscape exposure based on an incident
reading replace taking one exposure for highlights and a second for
shadows & combining these exposures in PS?

Notch Codes03 Jun 2006 09:15 GMT7
I was tidying up my old film holders today and found about a dozen that had
film in that I simply don't remember (oops!).  I don't recognise the notch
code and can't find it in any of the data guides I have on the shelf, or by
searching online.  So that prompts two questions:
Perspective control using shifts03 Jun 2006 01:08 GMT19
A view camera has a lens that produces an image circle much larger then
is needed for the film size.  When shifts are used you are selecting
what part of this circle gets captured to film.  Shifts do not change
the perspective of the image, only the aiming of the lens changes that.
Mamiya press lenses for LF?02 Jun 2006 04:28 GMT5
I own few Mamiya Press lenses. I wonder if it's really make sense to
adapt 75mm and 127mm ones of them for LF? Maybe somebody done it and
knows how to do technically?
I use Sinar F1 with 210mm - would be nice to use with it some wider
Filters for Landscapes01 Jun 2006 23:50 GMT14
I plan to purchase a Lee lens hood for my 4x5 field camera, a Busch
Pressman with a Schneider G Claron f/9 210mm lens. I know the adapter
ring I need, and Lee makes it.
I'm trying to decide whether I need no filter, one filter, two filters,
