Bausch & Lomb  Compound shutter31 Mar 2006 00:22 GMT4
I recently acquired a Cooke Anastigmat Lens, Series II, 7in/4.5. The
question I have concerns the shutter.  It is a Bausch & Lomb  Compound
shutter. It does not have the standard aperture numbers, 4.5, 5.6
......22, 32, 64....  Instead, it starts at 2 (smallest aperture
Any shooting that bulk roll Plus-X?30 Mar 2006 20:30 GMT18
on eBay there's a regular ad for some Plus-X in a long-roll format.
But I've heard of nobody using it, locally at least.
Anyone here using it?  What's your satisfaction level?
It looks like a bargain if one puts up with some required elbow grease.
Polaroid  545  vs  545i29 Mar 2006 14:22 GMT4
I want to get a Polaroid back for my 4x5 cameras.  I was told to get
either the 545 or 545i back.
What is the difference between the two and is one preferable to the
other?  I want a workhorse and not a collector's piece.
4990 scanning workflow28 Mar 2006 15:07 GMT6
Sorry if some of you consider this off-topic...
I'm wondering what some of you do when scanning 4x5" trannies with an
Epson 4990-class scanner?
I scan in 48-bit, 3200dpi.

but I'm new to large format and cannot easily find the information I

My problem is really simple but I'm in total confusion: I bought some

I'm looking for advice on a light weight tripod to support a 4x5 field
camera for use while hiking and traveling. Any suggestions would be
appreciated. -- John Lapp
Copal No. 1 Shutter Not Accurate25 Mar 2006 18:04 GMT3
Recently bought a 4 x 5 w/ Schneider G-Claron 9/210 lens & Copal No. 1
shutter. Local camera shop says shutter accurate only to 1/25, anything
above is not. The camera is a Busch Pressman D, made in the late
1940's. The lens & shutter probably replaced the originals, but I don't
Which film to disappear first, color or B&W?25 Mar 2006 03:19 GMT2
With Kodak discontinuing B&W paper, it makes me wonder whether color or
B&W 4x5 film will disappear first.  Any thoughts?
For some reason, I thought B&W film would always be available because it
can be manufactured easier (and by smaller companies) and because 4x5 is

LARGE prints22 Mar 2006 03:37 GMT25
So I have a scan from a small negative: 56cm x 56cm. It's about 360mp.  I go
to the local camera store and ask them if they can do a 40"x40". They say,
"Sure, our printer is 40, but we can't do anything like 300ppi."
Izat true? WTF? I mean if a person does a truly highrez image ...

Horseman part13 Mar 2006 20:48 GMT4
I picked up an 8x10 "project" camera from Midwest a couple of months
ago.
It was constructed from some Toyo and Horseman parts, coupled with some
quality picture frame components.  It's actually rather well-built.
