Left and right handed 5x4 monorails ?30 Jan 2006 16:11 GMT2
I've just "graduated" to an old, very affordable but good conditioned, MPP
monorail from my Microtechnical Mk VI.  First thing I noticed when trying to
use it, is that the focus knobs are on the RHS of the rail, only.  Being
right-handed, I normally hold the lupe in my right hand to ...
metering question29 Jan 2006 08:46 GMT11
i have a question regarding a metering situation. i have both a view camera,
and a rangefinder 6x7, so it would apply to both. if i am using a stack
(really on or two) cokin-type filters, and need to get an accurate meter,
acn i just use my minolta FM IV with the flat diffused ...
lensboard size29 Jan 2006 05:11 GMT3
Is there a guide to lensboard openings for various shutters? What size
opening should I get for a 90mm Angulon (4x5, non-super) and 270mm Arton?
Looking forward to exploring the wonderful world of LF with my recently
acquired OmegaView.

LF+scan+print: Case study, with prints26 Jan 2006 16:03 GMT241
Sounds ambitious, and maybe it is.  I propose to show
you a 24 x 30" print, made from scans of LF film.  Alas, I
can only show you a mere /scan/ of said print.  It's the
best I can do with this medium.

I'd put that test against ANY image claiming to be not digital.
That would probably eliminate 80% of photo.net crap
Copal 3 Mounting ring with 1 or 0?23 Jan 2006 19:28 GMT3
I have a Copal 3 shutter, it has a "female" plate that is attached to the
wood lens board, that the shutter screws into  Will a Copal 1 and/or 0 screw
into this ring...i.e. same size/thread's.  Would be nice to have 1 lens
board with multiple lenses.  It's and older Burke/James ...

How to use Spectra Combi-500 meter23 Jan 2006 16:04 GMT2
I bought this Spectra Combi 500 exposure meter, and I think I figured
out how to use most of the functions, except the slides. The meter
comes with 13 slides, they are 0, 15, 24, 32, 50, 64, 80, 100, 160,
200, 250, 320, and 400. There are 3 other "special" slides, X10 (125),
Looking for a tall tripod23 Jan 2006 14:33 GMT5
I am working on a project that requires a tall tripod. I have the Gitzo
1325, but it only goes to 58". I would like to find one that goes to at
least 80" without a center column. My Technika always seemed to wobble
on a center column. Any suggestions?

Much of the article is about struggles over who controls his
View Camera Magazine22 Jan 2006 18:07 GMT21
I still subscribe to View Camera magazine even though I don't
use my view camera anymore. I switched to 6x7 a few years ago
when the hassle of getting through airports got to be too much.
In addition since I now print digitally the quality difference
