Magnifying  glasses for focusing screen13 Sep 2005 04:01 GMT15
The long loupe is not that comfortable to use.  Are people using magnifying
glasses, for looking at the focusing screen? Or am I fantasizing? If I am
not, could anybody recommend one or two makes? Thanks.

Centre-Filter Question13 Sep 2005 00:33 GMT15
I have a Rodenstock Grandagon 75mm f6.8, and no centre filter for it.
Looking through the bits box I see I have a Schneider centre filter III
which is the one for a Schneider 75mm f5.6 (also for the 65mm f8).
Anyone know if that will provide the right fall-off 'correction' for my
Airline travel tip12 Sep 2005 21:03 GMT13
Last week I took an airtrip.  My carry-on luggage contained all
sorts of weird-looking stuff (lenses, 4x5, ball-head, etc.) but the
item the TSA folks were most interested in was the small Allen
wrench used to attach the Really-Right-Stuff plate to the bottom
Star trails11 Sep 2005 19:08 GMT10
I've had some success shooting star trails on a DSLR on really dark nights
using exposures measuring tens of minutes.
I recently tried the same thing on 4*5 Velvia, leaving the shutter open for
over an hour and then coming back. I'd figured that there would be a large
carts for trails?10 Sep 2005 17:32 GMT11
I used to trot up and down the hills with so much weight
that just thinking about it makes me tired. Now I'm -- less
energetic. Read old and fat.

Digital Inkjet negatives09 Sep 2005 03:26 GMT11
I have just added a digital component to my darkroom. I have added the Epson
4990 Pro Scanner and the R2400 Printer. Along with a new Mini MAC. All of
this gear was added with the intent of making inkjet negatives for contact
printing for Silver prints and maybe some ALT process. I ...
Hand of God07 Sep 2005 11:41 GMT11
Am I the only photographer here who's heard the term "Hand of God" used to
describe the glow caused by (over) burning or dodging to create
effects/control contrast in a black and white print?  Or is Stafford just an
idiot?  (Never mind, the latter goes without saying.)
Timing for LF 4x5 neg tray development05 Sep 2005 20:11 GMT7
I just developed my first LF negs this morning using tray development
with relatively good results (the neg should be printable ;-)).
I have a question about timing during tray development.  I have always
been under the impression that the small amount of light from a large
Ball head or three-way head?05 Sep 2005 16:31 GMT17
Currently, I own an early-medieval tripod (Gitzo R.No.4) and an
accompanying 3-way head. The setup is fine for studio work
and it will carry my Cambo Master and  the Mamiya RZ system
just fine. But I want to take the gear out into the field, too, and
Coping with heavy gear in the wilds03 Sep 2005 00:12 GMT8
Some will laugh out loud, but  for a while I dealt with a heavy tripod (Zone
VI monster) for my extra-heavy camera by leaving the tripod about 1/2 mile
off the trail, hauled up into a tree and wrapped in camo. I could just go
get it when I needed it. I wouldn't be so confident if ...

Building homemade 4X5, digital backs?01 Sep 2005 12:44 GMT9
I would love to build a 4 by 5.  I would like to know if there is a
standard digital back available and how would it fit? In essence, what
would be it's dimensions and requirements? Thanks in advance.
