Today, I received my B&J 4x5 field camera that comes in the B&J hallmark
battleship grey.  This winter, as the wind and snow howl around the house,
I'd like to strip the paint off the camera and restore it to its original
condition.  I have stripped many a piece of furniture in ...

I just uncovered two jars of chemicals (unused and unopend) that I
purchased in 1980. One is 5lbs of sodium sulfite and the other is 1lb of
elon (kodak's name for metol). I was wondering if I should consider them
still ok to use. Any comments?

Questions about the use of spot meters10 Sep 2003 02:17 GMT3
I have a Minolta Flash Meter V with a 5 degree viewfinder and I have a few
questions about how to use it. Such as, does the area to be read have to
fill the "target" (circle w/small dot at center) within the viewfinder for
an accurate read and with the 5 degree angle of acceptance, ...
A Clever Portfolio-Carrier09 Sep 2003 17:58 GMT7
Teaching young people has some advantages.  All my kids are now wearing
lanyards with little Flash-memory "drives" that plug into USB ports around
their necks.
This turns out to be beyond cool for me.  I just bought a 256M Sandisk

I have posted here a couple of times always asking for advices
on building cameras and about good places where to purchase equipment.
Once more, I am stressing the patience of the newsgroup with a similar
9" bellows on a 4x508 Sep 2003 18:12 GMT1
I have beee told the length of the bellows won't let me focus at
distances that are not at infinity with a 300mm "T".  With an ordinary
300mm the problem is that I can't focus at infinity.  Before I buy a
lens and find I may have these problems, can someone tell me the right
A sign of the times?08 Sep 2003 17:40 GMT6
I saw something yesterday that was many things at once: Comical, pathetic
odd, stupid, and just weird. My wife and I were visiting one of those
"Historical Villages" (a la Williamsburg) where all sorts of period
buildings are on display and showcased as if you were back in the 1860s ...

Velvia 50 or E100vs for mural size prints08 Sep 2003 15:49 GMT3
I'm have a tough time deciding which film to use on my fall color photo
trip----velvia  50 or e100vs in 4x5 and 2-1/4.  I would like to use my
standby velvia 50 because of it's fine grain.  I dread, however, the
reciprocity compensations and color shifts with long exposures----most ...
Help odd ground glass back configuration08 Sep 2003 00:04 GMT1
Having shot 4x5 for a couple of years I saw what looked like a good deal on
an 8x10 on ebay and bought it.  It's an ansco, basically the same camera as
the
