| Diffraction again - frequency | 20 Sep 2003 19:29 GMT | 60 |
I am dwelling upon a B&W negative I made using a very small aperture (two stops smaller than F90). But about diffraction and color - I realize that diffraction degrades sharpness, but exactly what effect does color (frequency) have? How might

| Question: Anyone using an 80mm Super Symmar XL, yea or nay on the center filter? | 19 Sep 2003 12:00 GMT | 10 |
Anyone actually shot some skies, etc. and determined if the Schneider 3b center filter is necessary with this lens? Seem to get conflicting opinions... which of course doesn't surprise me... :) I'm thinking of adding this lens at some point (I have the center filter for

| Cell spacing-new question | 19 Sep 2003 00:34 GMT | 6 |
I have a couple of barrel lenses I plan to use in shutters, a 210 kowa grapkic & 305 g claron. I have read/heard that the cell spacing will differ depending on application, that the cells should be spaced farther apart for maximum performance in the center of the field, and

| View Camera Sept/Oct 03 | 18 Sep 2003 15:27 GMT | 2 |
We tried an experiment in this issue. We presented the Robert Smith Portfolio w/o text. We did this to present the work as I'd first seen it at Photo Americas in Portland in April and then again at PhotoArts Santa Fe in July. He showed the work as small prints with large white mats. ...

| Ground Glass thickness question.... | 17 Sep 2003 20:20 GMT | 6 |
Hi, All... Is there a specific thickness for ground glass? The reason I ask is that I'm trying to get my Ansco 5x7 going. I have a 4x5 back for it, and a sliding split 5x7 back for it, but the 5x7 split back

| Where to get my shutter CLA'ed | 17 Sep 2003 19:32 GMT | 3 |
I bought a Crown Grafic with a Optar 135 f4.7. It's in pretty good shape, but I suspect the shutter is off at slow speeds. Anybody suggest a good and not too expensive place to get it cleaned and adjusted?

| exhibiting and galleries | 17 Sep 2003 04:19 GMT | 5 |
Does anyone out there exhibit regularly, have work in museums, and/or are you represented by commercial galleries? I've shown a lot of prints at restaurants, cafes, bookstores, and the like, and sold a certain amount of work. After sixteen years of pretty serious

| Question about lens cell spacing | 16 Sep 2003 02:19 GMT | 57 |
Actually a 2-part ?: one specific, the other general. 1. I'd like to swap lenses between two old Compur shutters of the same size (both of which will accept a 105mm CZJ Tessar); one's the old style (dialset) while the other is newer (rimset). Does anyone know if the cell spacing ...

With a bended knee and furrowed brow, I have sought to break the arrows of my own battlefield. I cannot speak the sorrow, but chose to write this now. To convey much pain of what we saw, the here, the now, the waste of it all. The burning embers as you looked away, from

| photo presentation | 15 Sep 2003 15:35 GMT | 9 |
I learned that the way to present a quality b/w photo is to heat press it onto matt board, then lay an overmatt on top that doesn't touch the edges of the photo, then frame. A guy at my local frame shop says no piece of art work should be permanently attached to anything like ...

| Another method to measure cell spacing? | 15 Sep 2003 03:39 GMT | 5 |
Critique, please. Would the following work? Mark the outside of the lens where it abuts the shutter, remove the shutter, open the diaphram all the way, put the lens into B or T, put a small piece of clay on the lens (back) and reassemble so that the clay is pressed between the lens

| Tachihara Modification | 14 Sep 2003 23:55 GMT | 5 |
Some time back I posted a question about modifying a Tachihara 4x5 for front axis tilt. The general response seemed to be "give it a try", so I finally did it. I removed the two little tabs that line the front lensboard up in the front standard of my Tachihara. As of this morning ...
