Sharing Info vs Snobbery..... 30 Aug 2003 03:03 GMT5
Is it such a hard thing  to offer advice and suggestions in this group?
Should  snide comments and ridicule for new people to the format be the
norm?  Some of us come from other formats. Don't be such an a.s when dealing
with questions.

Shutter repair in Toronto? GTA?29 Aug 2003 14:30 GMT3
Anybody know of a good shutter repair shop? I've picked up a
couple of older shutters to front mount. One just needs to have the speeds
tweaked and an adapter but the other is in worse shape. These are older
[One Wollensak and the other an Ilex] shutters.
Mount and Calibrate Lenses?29 Aug 2003 07:26 GMT4
A friend of mine mentioned that he had his 360mm 8x10 lens mounted and
calibrated at a shop when he bought the lensboard that it is on. I
never knew you needed special mounting!? Is this the case? Up until
now I have just been screwing them on to the boards myself.
One tragic 'statement'(when viewing distance matters)28 Aug 2003 02:23 GMT1
I visited a very wealthy private college 'art' center last week. There was
no art, but one photograph: an E. Porter (printed by Ansel Adams). It was
about 40" by 50", and stuck in a narrow turn in a hallway where it was
dark, and the maximum viewing distance was 40". All one could ...
Interior Shot27 Aug 2003 04:00 GMT8
I'm looking for a film recommendation. I'm shooting an environmental
portrait of an interior designer in  in one of her rooms. I haven't seen the
room yet...won't see it until day of shoot. I just know it is dark, rich,
jewel tones. For magazine and promotion.
astron enlarger26 Aug 2003 03:46 GMT1
I've got the chance to get an Astron 5x4 inch enlarger. I've never heard of
this brand before.
Are they OK?  What important things should I look for. It has a pressed
metal light source, are these OK for even light.
Bag Question: Lowepro Pro Roller 2 for 4x525 Aug 2003 02:03 GMT1
Hey all,
I just bought a brand new Lowepro Pro Trekker AWII. But, after hauling my
TK45 and assorted gear, I discovered that a back pack just isn't a great
idea for this amount of gear if I want to keep my spinal cord as long as it
Assisting...23 Aug 2003 14:54 GMT6
I asked for help last week on what film to use for an interior shot I was
assisting on. Thank you for all of your responses.
We shot yesterday and I'm completely blown away.
This was my first time working with this photographer and she is normally a
Old professional VS new consumer level scanners for 4x5?22 Aug 2003 06:32 GMT2
I bought an old Sinar Norma LF camera a little while ago and I think I need
a new scanner now. I used my Agfa SnapScan 600 for a while, but IMO using it
and light table for film scanning was (very much) less than ideal
solution...
Large Format Conference21 Aug 2003 14:52 GMT4
We are still looking for suggestions for seminar and field trip ideas. The
conferene will be in Monterey in May of 2004.
We are thinking of memorial Day weekend. It would start Friday evening and
continue through Sunday. This way participants would have Monday to get home.
Help with a Seiko shutter21 Aug 2003 14:03 GMT4
I have a #0 Seiko shutter that does not work properly or should I say at
all. After I have done focusing and try to close it, the blades don't
return to the closed position properly. This prevents firing the shutter
and thus makes the shutter almost unusable. I can sometimes get ...
The ridiculous price of some work.20 Aug 2003 21:00 GMT4
Some photographers price thier work too low, maybe myself
included,....but I really wonder when see an unknown photographers work
priced at 3K for a "color" print not a cibachrome. Epsecially when the
print is nothing particularly unique...I gues whatever the market will bear.
how do I get in the picture?20 Aug 2003 03:46 GMT3
Is there a way to have a timer on a 4x5 lens?
