Manual focus of non-full-time manual focus lenses?12 Jun 2008 15:02 GMT13
I keep seeing warnings that you shouldn't manually focus the Canon lenses
that aren't Full-time Manual Focus, if they are in AF mode.

Why is the lens off-center on a digital SLR?12 Jun 2008 09:18 GMT3
I remember years ago asking the same question about film SLRs but
can't remember if there ever was a good reason for placing the lens a
bit off center towards the left side of the camera.
Now we find the same arrangement on digital SLRs and again I wonder if

Raw File Formats12 Jun 2008 01:18 GMT51
I am struggling, trying to understand the format of RAW files.
I understand the is a luminosity channel (12 or 14 bits, depending on the
camera) for each pixel which accounts for the bulk of the information,
plus color information.
Alternative to Canons 450D?11 Jun 2008 22:26 GMT19
I'm thinking of buying a buying a DSLR, I've seen Canons 450D as a good
introductory DSLR.
What would be a good alternative, ie Nikon, Pentax models.

DPreview can't get it's head out of Canon's a.s....11 Jun 2008 20:22 GMT10
I read the review of the Sony A350 on DPReview (thanks to RichA).
Are they completely blind and stupid?
They claim the picture of the RAW file of the Canon 450 is better. Well,
download both files and judge:
Seeking Lens recommendations for Nikon D3 from newbie11 Jun 2008 19:27 GMT13
I just upgraded my D70 to a D3 and still am very green regarding
digital photography. I was hoping that you all could shoot me some
opinions regarding a lens choice.
My old D3 had a 18mm-70mm DX lens which I still have as well as a

The loss of the CCD...10 Jun 2008 19:02 GMT19
I'm wondering if we're losing anything now CCDs are pretty much
confined to medium formats?
Portrait mode10 Jun 2008 15:58 GMT6
In portrait you can't do RAW.
If you switch to AV and you lower "f" to minimum are you getting exactly the
same mode? (Shooting in RAW)

Is there a way to do this?  Specifically I
need to alter the exposure bracketing to give
greater than +/-1.0 in a continuous burst,

Latest Sony A350 gets its head handed to it.08 Jun 2008 20:58 GMT11
Just "recommended?"  The A700 showed such promise.  The A100 was a
cheap, cheap plastic thing, but it did have one good thing going for
it..unmolested raw files which rendered the best 10 meg resolution at
the time of it's introduction.  The new Sony seems to have a clever

I've yet to see one that didn't render images TOO flat.  Mostly
unprintable in their rendered state.
