Photographic bight shiny objects?14 Feb 2008 23:18 GMT27
I've got to shoot some sailing trophies -- highly polished silver with
lettering engraved on them.  The lettering needs to be readable in the
photos.

Sigma lens14 Feb 2008 05:19 GMT8
Received a Sigma DG lens from a large mail-order house today, and shot off
75 photos at various focal lengths.  The photos inside 10' were sharp.
Photos shot at 200mm-300mm were mostly out of focus using a tripod or hand
held.  At those distances the lens seemed not to find a ...

D300 Buggy?12 Feb 2008 19:41 GMT5
In the third paragraph he says that likely the reason the lens didn't focus
is because the D300 is still buggy.

Macro Lenses12 Feb 2008 16:49 GMT15
Would someone please explain the pros and cons of different focal
length micro- nikor lenses.  In other words, besides the shorter or
longer focal lengths are there any inherent advantages to one size or
another for close up photography?  Why would I want a 105 instead of a
Apple Aperture -- jpeg inside raw for preview?12 Feb 2008 15:52 GMT1
I was just watching the new Aperture tutorials
(http://www.apple.com/aperture/tutorials).  The quick preview works by
using the jpeg image which "most digital cameras" store inside a raw image
file.  They don't say what "most" means.  Does the Nikon D200 do that?
Bayer sensor and MX12 Feb 2008 14:38 GMT27
The way the Bayer sensor works, it "makes up" color information depending on
the surrounding pixels. But if you do multiple exposures with exactly the
same scene, the picture gets more sharp according to the amount of
exposures.
The Russians are coming !!!!!!!!!!12 Feb 2008 10:19 GMT20
Battleship "Moskva" was is Lisbon for a few days. Hundreds of people were
standing in long lines to go on board and see what they used to be so afraid
of.

Some odd about this Foveon photo11 Feb 2008 20:04 GMT12
This is from the new DP-1 P&S they're introducing.  It almost looks
like the photo has motion blur, but only in the vertical.

A Sigma horror story09 Feb 2008 16:06 GMT1
This guy would be a glutton for punishment, if not for that lab that
can cater to his whims when he gets another bum Sigma.
