Comparing mm lenses?28 Jan 2008 17:55 GMT51
Lets say I had a 200mm "simple" lens, simple defined as 'a lens that focus's
200mm back as measured with a ruler...
And I also had a telephoto lens, that was full of glass parts and was only maybe
150mm long, and used the 'internal image magnify' trick to deliver 200mm

Nikon 70-210 AF f/4 operation on dSLR's28 Jan 2008 14:15 GMT13
For those familiar with the Nikon 70-210 AF f/4, being that it's an
older lens, can aperture be controlled through the camera body (for
things like aperture-priority or shutter-priority)?  Or, would I have
to control it manually, setting it on the lens directly?  A D70s is

I've seen in a camera store for a body from any mfg.  This could be
bad for some retailers who typically pocket 50% + on trade-ins.

Question about Nikon D200 DC Power27 Jan 2008 23:38 GMT8
Folks,
I've searched through the D200 manual, and then a few searches on the net, but I
cant find out the answer to a few questions about powering the D200 from an
external source. I wondered if anyone here might know.
Effect of a scratch on the rear element27 Jan 2008 14:08 GMT27
What is the effect of a scratch on the rear element of a lens? I'm
looking at a used lens, fast wide angle. I know a mark on the front
element can induce flare, not sure if the rear element is more or less
critical: http://i8.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/d3/24/887f_3.JPG
Focus beyond infinity and other things.27 Jan 2008 01:11 GMT9
One thing I've noticed, is that I can focus some lenses beyond infinity, in
other words, after focusing on some distant mountains, and even at the infinity
marking on the lens, I can still turn the focus ring farther, blurring the
image. Even the moon would be blurred...

Nikon 85mm f/1.425 Jan 2008 16:14 GMT44
I'm contemplating the purchase of the Nikon 85mm f/1.4  I'd like to
hear from anyone who has this lens and how do they like it?  I already
have the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8,  Any thoughts?...

Depth of Field24 Jan 2008 20:43 GMT13
Colleagues: I'm looking for an easy, arithmetic way to determine the amount
of an image that is in focus.  What would be really nice would be a
spreadsheet or chart that says (for example) at f/4 with the camera focused
at an object 6 feet away, everything from 5 feet to 7 feet ...
Good Nikon 70-300mm (or thereabouts) zoom24 Jan 2008 16:46 GMT9
I was hoping to get some advice on purchasing a new zoom for my Nikon
D70.  I've used my Nikkor 75-300mm (http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/
75300.htm) lens for the past 15 years and have had great service from
it.  However I'm noticing that it really doesn't give me the quality
