Depth of field difference between APS-C and full frame06 Oct 2007 17:57 GMT74
I'm taking a class that deals primarily with developing and printing b&w
film so I pulled out my old Minolta SLR.  Since I've been shooting
digital exclusively for the last 3 years I just want to get my head
around the difference in depth of field with the 35mm SLR.
Canon 40d question..06 Oct 2007 15:37 GMT23
Read a lot of favourable remarks about the Canon 40d, but as of yet, I can't
find anywhere or anyone who makes a comment about * picture qulity * of this
camera.
Can anyone tell me if this camera has significantly * better * Picture

Color Calibration Questions05 Oct 2007 22:26 GMT12
I have a laptop system (LCD) and a desktop system (CRT), both of which I
use for photo-editing.  I would like to calibrate the two of them, so
that the colors match on each, and also match the output of my Nikon D80.
Although I don't print many of my photos at home, occassionally ...
The length of the focal length?05 Oct 2007 21:35 GMT13
Just for fun, I measured a 200mm lens from the front objective, to the camera
film plane, and it was 200mm... nice... but I tried a 300mm lens and it was only
230mm??
What gives?
Dpreview's (Askey's) anti-Live View stance perplexing05 Oct 2007 08:28 GMT39
They seriously think (as implied here) that an entry-level user will
get more out of Live View than a pro or serious amateur?  It is not
logical.  Pros and advanced amateurs are more likely to find
themselves in varied photographic situations, and are more likely to
Should Amazon have paid dpreview's group participants?04 Oct 2007 20:18 GMT19
How is most of the value of dpreview derived?  By the tests they do
(none in recent memory) or by the participants relaying their
experiences?  Dpreview provides the venue, but the real value (much of
it) comes from the people who participate on the groups.  Many

Wolfie? Korbie? Any of you Canon guys out there?
Just wanted to pull your chain. Here is a quote from Photoshop guru Scott

Dpreview delays review to allow Canon to fix problem?03 Oct 2007 23:06 GMT20
The review for the Canon 1DmkIII has been (obviously) held back to
allow Canon to come up with a fix for the focusing problems it has.
This activity is slowly turning dpreview more into nothing but a glad-
handing ad-sheet for the mfgs?

Short Course on Canon EF Macro Lenses03 Oct 2007 14:52 GMT4
After all these years I have finally found a project to work on. It is
going to entale mostly macro or very close nature shots. I have been
using the only decent lense I have, an  EF 28-135 stabilized I have
not really been able to get as close as I would like to to nature

I got my Katz eye focusing screen in the mail yesterday and installed it

Nano-scam B.S. coming to camera companies03 Oct 2007 04:07 GMT43
Hey retards who fall for Nikon's "nano-coatings" or Pentax's, exactly
how "large" do you think coating particles were before nanotechnology
became the "titanium" of today?  This doesn't mean whatever coating
method they use is B.S, only that ALL coating methods operate at the

Pentax K10D02 Oct 2007 13:15 GMT31
I'm thinking about making the leep into DSLR.  I was looking at the Pentax
K10D since it looks to be a good mid-range camera, but has some options to
grow in to and learn more from.  Does anybody here own this body?
Opinions?  Which lens do you find most useful if you do?
