They make some of the most sophisticated semiconductor fabrication equipment in the World, but they can't afford to build their own fab or hire the people needed to implement its use! So they are left to go hat in hand to Sony for CCDs and CMOS chips.

I'm talking mostly about lenses that are at the very top when it comes to resolution and especially aberration control. Something like Olympus's Top Pro line, or Leica or the new Zeiss's we've seen introduced for Nikon and Sony.
