Nikon's LCDs.  Towards the end for mirror mechanisms29 Aug 2007 17:32 GMT4
I see a day when electronic displays have replaced optical displays
relying on mirror/reflex mechanisms.  Shutter  speed constraints are a
thing of the past, shutter noise is gone, ultrafast f1.0 lenses are
common and cameras are smaller, at least in depth.  A kind of
canon serial numbers29 Aug 2007 01:11 GMT3
Could someone explain how to read the canon serial numbers?
Thanks in advance!

High speed SD cards worth it?28 Aug 2007 14:02 GMT3
I see higher access speed SD cards at premium prices. Does thsi make
any difference when shooting in terms of shooting speed? Or does it
just make retrieval from the card faster?
Digital Camera/Photo Paper coordination in the USA28 Aug 2007 11:51 GMT23
Disclaimer: Twerps, nasties, people with an axe to grind and assorted
newsgroup degenerates need not reply to this question.
Why in the American Photo industry do sellers and distributors of
Digital Cameras which produce images with a 2:3 ratio not sell or
The lens-sensor conundrum28 Aug 2007 11:31 GMT4
The first two I've read. The third one, I think.
1.  "Sensors have eclipsed lenses (said of 10 meg 1.5 crop sensors)
they resolve beyond them."
2.  "Sensors need to be at least 80 megapixels on a FF to match the
Value of a genuine Canon NP-3E battery?28 Aug 2007 09:53 GMT2
I'm helping a friend sell his 1D Mark II N. He has 7 genuine Canon
batteries and 2 chargers for this camera.  They don't work with the
Mark III so they are all being sold.  I don't believe it will add much
value to the camera body to offer all of this with the camera in one
Something aside from high priced camera telephotos27 Aug 2007 22:36 GMT15
Check out this thread.  These apo telescopes which have diffraction-
limited optics are an interesting alternative to traditional camera
telephotos.  Though they don't have the speed (most are between f5 and
f8) they can be used wide open, since they do not have the optical
Wishing To Go DSLR27 Aug 2007 18:34 GMT68
I have been thinking about going DSLR and would like a little help making up
my mind.
Right now I am using a Nikon Cool Pix 8400.
I only do indoor photography and don't mind working with a tri-pod.

Not particularly useful, but here it is - posted on Japanese
"slr club" forum, presumably from a pre-production model at
the launch:

Recommendation for main processor with 2 mega pixel CMOS27 Aug 2007 17:49 GMT9
Good Folks,
My first entry here, so I hope you people would be
enough generous if I don't know the defacto posting standards for this
place;-)
How EXPERTS (not photogs) clean optics27 Aug 2007 16:19 GMT1
Still wiping optics with that watered down Windex camera stores sell
for the equivalent of $2000/gallon?  Well, here is how to clean optics
properly.

Assistance with photo editing.27 Aug 2007 15:59 GMT17
Hi guys, I have what I think is a good photo save for a hugely distracting
background.
I was wondering if anyone here could offer any tips on how best to edit the
photo in an attempt to improve it.
Nikon FF blast - good news!27 Aug 2007 00:00 GMT26
As most of you know by now, Nikon have hit one out of the park by
putting up two new 14 bit FF sensored bodies.  This is great news for
everyone as now Canon has a most serious competitor in the pro machines.
Some or many will lament or torment over the comparatively low 12 Mpix
D300...maybe I can afford a D200 now26 Aug 2007 23:23 GMT24
Now that the D300 has been announced, maybe the D200 will drop in
price to where I can affford it. I still like my 1/500 sync on the D70
however.
