Most suspect camera accessories22 Jul 2007 04:05 GMT17
What are the most suspect camera accessories?
IMO
-Expodisc (re-invented as a "white balance" tool)
-LED based ring lights (although for "e-bay" shots,
Sigma and Tamron 18-200 for Pentax22 Jul 2007 00:29 GMT9
I'm curious as to which of these is supposedly the best. Are the tests
or opinions I've missed (probably many)?
I'm not enamored of the f/6.3, but otherwise they seem decent, with
the Sigma having a pretty good price edge.
Question about shooting in RAW mode..21 Jul 2007 22:20 GMT57
Quick Q about RAW shooting...
am i correct in assuming that RAW is essentially a digital negative,  the
'bare bones' of an image , different to a jpeg where the camera adds it's
own image processing?
Slightly OFF Topic..when does it stop becoming photography and become post processed 'art'?21 Jul 2007 17:48 GMT38
Having bypassed film all together and entered the world of SLR into the very
contemporary 'digital' age, I have been looking at lots of people's work
posted on line, spectacular photos and amazing visuals.
I oftentimes wonder just how much post processing ( photoshop, etc, et al)
D200  - Random flat battery.21 Jul 2007 02:03 GMT4
I wonder if anyone else has had this with their D200.
I have had it (my second one) for about 2-3 months now and it has
worked perfectly with a lot of use.
I have been using a MB-D200 grip on it for most of the time.

Tokina 12-24 (for Canon) and filters20 Jul 2007 09:40 GMT11
Does anyone use filters with this lens (Canon mount)? I am thinking of
an UV-filter and a polarizer. Until now I have been working with B+W
filters (on other lenses, smaller diameter) and I wonder, whether the
sema make is useful in this case. Especially I'd like to know whether

Panoramics and mosaics in CS319 Jul 2007 21:34 GMT6
I just discovered that the "photomerge" function does mosaic as well as
panoramas.  (did a 3x3 and I didn't have to "help" the program).
Any opinion on whether CS3 does mosaics very well or if other programs
are better?  (Bret, Roger?)

On the rumored 18.7 Mpix Sony sensor19 Jul 2007 19:23 GMT9
The "current" Nikon D2Xs sports a 12.2 Mpix sensor giving it 4288 x 2848
pixels over a 23.7 x 15.7mm area.
This equates to about 181 pixels per mm.
If the rumored sensor in a rumored new body is true, then the new camera
Another hint at the next Sony DSLR - 12.8 Mpix(?)19 Jul 2007 17:45 GMT4

Must be the next "newbie" version as it has a single control knob that
appears to have those cutsie pictograms for selection of exposure by
scene type.  But it also has a VG and a flash sync terminal...
