Fill-in Flash - Canon EOS06 Jun 2007 23:23 GMT3
I have just bought a Speedlight 430 for my EOS 400.  It seems clever
enought to automatically provide a fill in light when used in bright
sunlight where people's faces cast harsh shadows.  For my taste,
however, there is rather too much flash and too little daylight in the
D200 flash sync only 1/25006 Jun 2007 20:37 GMT24
The D200 flash sync is only 1/250 because it lacks an electronic
shutter. A D70 goes up to 1/500 but without flash the D200 goes up to
1/8000 shutter speed which is 32x faster. I don't understand the
reasoning... is flash that slow that it would have no effect in a faster

*DUMB* noon questions about metering with a Canon 400d..06 Jun 2007 12:12 GMT3
Forgive me in advance if these question(s) are really dumb, but I am really
working my head around trying to understand  photography and my DLSR ( canon
400d).
Oftentimes, people will say " meter the light " from your camera , or  "
Canon won't be using consumer WAs for THIS thing!06 Jun 2007 10:20 GMT2
Looks like it'll need some good lenses.  The 17-40L just won't cut it.

You won't be seeing one of these sensors in your fashioncam any time
soon. Canon has built a 50 megapixel CMOS monstrosity, ...
Sigma 18-50/3,5-5,6 DC HSM for Nikon, yes - HSM!06 Jun 2007 01:34 GMT18

An example of the differences in uncalibrated monitors, if you don't
believe it can vary a lot:

Cheap memory online sellers reccomended  in the UK?05 Jun 2007 13:28 GMT6
Hi..just wondering if any UK based users of this NG can reccomend a cheap
( but establised, reliable) online supplier for compact flash cards.
I'm not being lazy by posting this before googling etc , I am just very
cautious about the number of counterfiet and dud memory cards that ...

camera bags05 Jun 2007 03:08 GMT5
Hi, just wondering what ya'll think of the Slingshot line of camera bags,
from what I have seen online, they seem like a good idea, would be carrying
a D50 and a extra lens, the charger, extra batt, ect.
Is it a good system or should I spend my money on something else???
Adobe elements question...05 Jun 2007 00:39 GMT4
Im getting really * irritated * that each time I add a compact flash to
download pictures to my PC that adobe completely hi-jacks my system and
forces it's self to download images from the cards to my PC.
is there any way to turn this incredibly annoying 'feature' off permanantly?
Lens-cleaning tissues04 Jun 2007 02:02 GMT18
A few weeks ago I went to the local high-end camera store for some
lens-cleaning tissues, and all they could come up with was a packet of
Olympus ones that had been sitting around opened for who knows how
long.  According to the saleswoman, everybody uses high-tech cloths
Can I have Nikon Capture NX open NEF files with NO processing?03 Jun 2007 18:27 GMT19
I have found that when I open NEF files in Capture NX, the image appears
for about a second and then its appearance changes (it gets darker and
greener).  How can I get Capture to open the file as TRULY raw so that ANY
processing to the image is manually applied by me?
Manfrotto/Bogen = near junk03 Jun 2007 16:48 GMT21
Manfrotto is better than the plastic crud out there like Slik, no
doubt, but it has it's own major issues.
I've never seen a product that was as crude as their heads.  They must
make them in cottage metal casting industries dotted about the
