Why does not the shutter speed appear in the picture file info?

I recently purchased the D40X and got the 18-55 lens
thinking I wanted lightweight and portable.  I've been
taking it shooting just around the city and I feel the lack
of a longer lens even in daily casual shoots.

What is the difference between the ??shutter of the Nikon D40 and the D40x
mechanical shutter?
What are the benefits/drawbacks?

I got a Nikkor 20mm f/2.8 AF lens used, fairly newish, supposedly for my
D200 (30mm eq for film people). I like it. Small. I've been collecting
MF AI Nikkor primes & it's nice to have AF, it's funny, what I do now is
AF where I want then turn off AF with a flick of the left ...

Hi..in the pursuit to rid myself from the wretched 18-55mm 'kit lens' that
came with my Canon 400d/xti rebel I'm doing as much research as
possible..whilst I'm not brand loyal ( like everyone else, I want the best

Would i see much of an improvement in going up to the 28 - 100mm zoom,

I found my 55-200 to be considerably sharper than the 18-55 GII. I've

First can I say I love my D50 I have had it for about 2 weeks and it
