Just got my D40X - and now for some questions :-)06 Apr 2007 18:21 GMT11
I hate installing unnecessary software on my computer.  What
will I get out of the software that comes with the D40X?
Should I install it?

Canon 300D lenses: I like the 50/1.8, what's next?06 Apr 2007 14:35 GMT5
I've been using a Digital Rebel (300D) for a few years now. I've been
shooting with the 18-55 kit lens, and I've augmented that with the
75-300 IS and the famous 50/1.8. I'm happy with the 75-300 for now
(extremely slow focus notwithstanding), but am considering upgrading
ISO's.....06 Apr 2007 13:53 GMT2

brother about ISO's
I thought a higher ISO allowed a faster shutter speed in lower light,  my
little brother thinks the reverse, ( I know it adds grain) so which of us is
Great News!  The Canon EOS-1DS Mk III uses Embedded Win32!06 Apr 2007 05:23 GMT6
For maximum efficiency in running the dual Digic III processor engine Canon
has elected to use Embedded Win32.  This is really exciting and
groundbreaking news that will surely have even more Nikon users jump ship
and come over to the Canon camp.  This is going to be one sweet ...

No new semiprofessional Nikon DSLR for now?04 Apr 2007 23:40 GMT36
The PMA did not show a new Nikon D200s or D300 or something like that. I am
going to buy a D200 in near future, but just wanted to ask, if anybody has
heard anything about something new in this area?

Manifestation of 12-bit conversion?04 Apr 2007 07:30 GMT4
I'm viewing this on an LCD monitor at 32 bits.  Notice the
discontinious tones in the snow?  Kind of like blotchy blue on white?
Is this a result of lack of colour bit-depth in the A to D conversion
process?  Or, it is simply the results of viewing on a monitor, it
Anybody using the Canon EF 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 IS?04 Apr 2007 07:25 GMT11
I am thinking of buying this lens for my wife to use, she is currently
using a Sigma 70-200, which is not a great lens, pretty bad in fact.
But she likes to photograph flowers among other things and I have been
unable to find the specs on how close the Canon lens can focus, does

EXIF says 1D Mark II at iso 640, but the shadow grain damned awful.  I can
only surmise the shot was underexposed and rescued in post process (or
Canon's noise is awful!  ;-)
