Upgrade to 400D or 30D02 Dec 2006 20:53 GMT4
My D30's shutter curtains have given up the ghost this week, isn't
really a economical repair, and I think this is the nudge to say time to
get a new Canon camera. I already have a few nice Canon lenses so Nikon
etc are not an option.

To cover all bases, I'm carrying three battery chargers in my camera bag.
One for my Canon 30D batteries (BP511), one for my Sony P&S camera
(NP-BG1), and one for rechargeable AA batteries for flash and misc.
There's gotta be a better way! Anyone know of a 'universal' charger, or at

Nikon SB20 & the off camera extension lead from my old SLR. As TTL won't
work on my D70 I am restricted to Auto or Fully Manual settings. The
question is are there any problems using this flash a short ...
430ex with optical trigger01 Dec 2006 22:17 GMT11
Has anyone tried this?  I can't seem to get it to work, would taping off
some of the pins on the flash help?  THe 430 has manual power settings and
I'd really like to be able to use it as an optical slave.  Thanks.

Variable Density Filters01 Dec 2006 00:04 GMT4
Is a variable density filter like the Singh-Ray Vari-ND essentially two
polarized filters in rotation? If so can I attain the same effect by
adding another 77mm CPL to my existing one? I've read as much, and it
matches my rusty understanding of paired polarizing filters, but ...
Further to the Sony-Canon review in Amateur Photography01 Dec 2006 00:03 GMT3
In the 20th Oct issue of Brit mag Amateur Photography, they tested the
Canon Rebel XTi/400 against Sony's A100.  The result was the Sony won
in nearly every category except noise.  However, even in the modest
reproduction quality of that mag, you could see drastically worse
