Questions about digital resolution23 Sep 2006 22:05 GMT1
sorry not to include Pentax, but currently they don't have a camera
that competes with the Canon 20D, 30D or the Nikon D200. The K100-110
don't have the same sensor as the Nikon D200. The K10 announced this
week has a 2 channel 10mp sensor so it competes more with the D80 or

General purpose lenses for Minolta/Sony23 Sep 2006 16:57 GMT3
I have a sony a100 with the kit lens. I also have two prosec lenses, a 28-70
(3.4-4.5) and a 80-200 (don't remember apertures, nothing special) from my
old minolta maxxum.
I'm starting to think that instead of having 2 lenses (the kit and the
What's the Secret?22 Sep 2006 10:17 GMT24
What's the Secret to getting shot with color this vivid?
http://www.pbase.com/paskuk/image/64605975 I see photos like this all over
Pbase.  Do you have to have a $5000.00 Dslr or just be good at Photoshop, or
what?  tx blah
Nikon D2X firmware update22 Sep 2006 03:32 GMT1
I thought that the firmware update was to be released in September, has
anyone heard differently?
Focus calibration21 Sep 2006 23:06 GMT16
I believe my 20D's focus is off a bit.  With the same lenses, I get
sharper images on my old Digital Rebel 300D then I do with the 20D under
similar circumstances.  I have seen several testing methods and will
probably go with a yard/meter stick placed on the ground (zero ...
CF Card?21 Sep 2006 21:12 GMT7
I am looking to get a 2-4Gig card.  I am shooting in RAW with a Canon
D20.  What cards are most people using these days?  Will any card
reader work or does it need to be brand specific?    I will be shooting
concert photos.
ARCHIVAL CDs - 300 YEARS LIFE!21 Sep 2006 11:21 GMT116
Well, the CD versus negative storage longevity arguments are now put to
rest.  Kodak have announced their new Gold Preservation CDs and DVDs.
Using pure gold reflective layers, phthalocyanine dye, and triple-layer
protection, they say the useful life of a CD is 300 years, and the ...
Nikon D200 vs. D8021 Sep 2006 04:34 GMT4
I suppose they are in different class targeting different customers.
However I look at the specs. and find the D80 is really catching up.
I have just sold my D70 to upgrade my gears.
What do you think?
Megapixel Saturation Is Coming?21 Sep 2006 01:38 GMT20
There's consumer level, there's prosumer level, and there's
professional level.  At what point will the consumer level be saturated
with over megapixelization?
It was 3 megapixels in 2002, 6 megapixels in 2004, 8 megapixels in
Canon Rebel XT & Sharpness20 Sep 2006 23:12 GMT17
I've noticed that all shots taken with the kit lens and a Tamron 28 - 80mm
lens are very soft (lacking sharpness). Is this usual and post processing is
needed and if so what is the reasoning behind it?
If Olympus does release a 4/3's with 14 megapixels20 Sep 2006 21:37 GMT8
Will their lenses be able to keep up with the pixel pitch?  They'll
need dead-sharp optics for that thing, if it actually comes out.
Olympus "kit" optics are very good, for kit lenses but it looks like
anyone buying the E-3 will need to use the pro optics to maximize the
Can people differentiate between 200 & 300 dpi?20 Sep 2006 20:23 GMT18
I'm curious:
How many people here can reliably differentiate between two prints: one
made from a 200 dpi source, another from a 300 dpi source?  Assume a
reasonable viewing distance --- like 12 to 18 inches, with typical
Lens Caps20 Sep 2006 19:17 GMT16
I use lens hoods on all my lenses. The problem is the lens caps. With the
hood in place, my fat fingers can't install or remove those caps that only
have the release grips on the outer edges. I don't cap the lens after every
shot, but like to keep it covered while walking in the ...
Is the street photographer an endangered species?20 Sep 2006 15:49 GMT76
I was reading an article today about a show featuring the photographs
of Lee Balterman. He spent years (particularly in the 50s and 60s)
wandering the streets (and bars) of Chicago, camera in hand,
photographing simply because, as he puts it, "I'm crazy about
