D200 (etc) - changing lenses26 Sep 2006 14:24 GMT43
The manual says to turn the camera off to change a lens.  Is this actually
necessary/optional/vital/whatever ?
I've inadvertently failed to turnoff and no damage, but was I just lucky ?

D80.  Better images, lower noise than D20026 Sep 2006 13:32 GMT9
At least according to one owner on dpreview.  If this is the case, how
hard would it be for Nikon to upgrade existing D200s and change the
design on the camera itself?

Is the pentax actually a samsung or vice versa?
Queries of NG members: dslr camera age.26 Sep 2006 07:32 GMT2
Friends:
I had an early Minolta entry level slr which was stolen a year or so
ago. Thinking about this, my first "serious" camera, which although
about 30 years old, was still functional, I got to wondering (for those
Canon 70-300 IS USM lens availability26 Sep 2006 04:42 GMT42
I'm wanting the Canon 70-300mm IS USM EF lens for my new 30D.
I have to mail order, since no one in our town sells lenses.
The big New Work mail order houses like B&H and Adorama
list them as back ordered, at stupefyingly low prices.

I know this is a digital photography forum, but I realize that a lot of you
have extensive film photography background, so I'm posting this "how
to" question.
I've been a digital photographer for the past 3 years, and, before that, I

Nikon D80 vs. Pentax K10D25 Sep 2006 12:56 GMT4
I would like to make the jump to dslr sometime soon, in the next year
at least. I have Leica M4 & Nikon F 35mm equipment now, late '60's
vintage. Was really keen on getting Nikon D80, but am having second
thoughts with the Pentax K10D coming out.

How can I go about getting a replacement cd for the Penatx K100D
Any help would be great!
New Fuji S5 pro25 Sep 2006 03:53 GMT2
Based on Nikon D200 body with 6mp SuperCCD sensor.
S3 image quality (or probably better) with D200 ergonomics and Nikkor
lenses should be pretty appealing.
But I guess that they might struggle to win new customers.
Old Flash unit and New DX 5024 Sep 2006 20:55 GMT1
Sorry if this has been asked a thousand times before --
I have an old "multi dedicated" flash units from my "olden" days......
It has a setting for Nikon cameras on it......Is it possible to have it
working with the Nikon DX50 ?
Question about digital resolution24 Sep 2006 18:03 GMT12
Hi... I first posted this in a different group. This one is more
applicable.
I am an amateur photographer (35 mm) that is looking to take it more
seriously and learn and practice... to the point that I can take
Pentax woes24 Sep 2006 10:13 GMT2
Just three months after its warranty expired, my *ist-DS after 5,500
shots has gotten very flakey.  The "e-dial" thumbwheel on the camera
back, so important in making adjustments, has become extremely
unreliable... skipping settings, etc.  Cameras have become too reliant on
Dear Potential D80 buyers24 Sep 2006 02:01 GMT17
Realize that the camera you will be buying is a first class machine.
My one word limited review so far is "awesome."
Realize too that Nikon has pulled a switcheroo which, if you are in
inveterate raw shooter, leaves you in limbo for the time being.
