Best method of cleaning a lens?26 Aug 2006 22:06 GMT11
I have some Canon lenses (70-200 f2.8 and 24-70 f2.8) that I want to clean
(optical surface) and want some thoughts on the best way to do it.  They are
regularly brushed before use, have no obvious finger or other marks, but are
showing a slight "haze" when held to a bright light ...
Sony takes market share from Canon...26 Aug 2006 15:41 GMT9
Only one month (but obviously there's only one month's data anyway!)
Seems Canon has taken a far bigger hit from Sony than Nikon in the
Japanese market.  The 400d launch price is apparently $US50 less than
the current 350d price.  Margins are the first casualty of true
Good Mac picture viewerw26 Aug 2006 10:18 GMT14
I just got a DSLR camera and am finding that frequently when a picture
looks clear at full screen on a 1280 x 1024 average quality LCD monitor,
its flaws quickly become evident once one magnifies it a bit.  I've been
using the Opera internet browser because its the only program ...
Tele-Conversion lenses26 Aug 2006 09:17 GMT3
I see 3x telephoto and wide angle Tele-Conversion lenses are cheap.
Why dont a lot of people use them?
How does their quality compare to real lenses?
If I get a Canon rebel XT($750) or Nikon D50($700) w/kit, and attach
Photographing the sun26 Aug 2006 05:26 GMT15
Using a Canon Rebel XT and was wondering if this is difficult?  Can I
burn out the sensor if the solar filter doesn't work properly?  Are
there solar filters one can buy that are reasonably priced?  Could one
make one?  I'm just using the 17-55 mm lens.  But I thought if I could
D70 to D8026 Aug 2006 04:14 GMT37
I have a D70 (not a D70S) and I can afford to part ex & upgrade to the D80.
Question is, is it worth the expense, I tend to do landscapes & as I'm due
to retire I hope to spend far more time doing photography. What is the
general feeling on the upgrade.
New Zeiss lens25 Aug 2006 20:56 GMT2
I noted that Zeiss is now making some slr lens for Nikon. Are
those lens still made in Germany, and if so, where? I gather that the
Contact cameras are no longer made; but do you think that they might be
once again made? I think that Nikon copied Zeiss when it made cameras,
Canon 17-55 IS USM lens hood question25 Aug 2006 06:02 GMT3
Anyone have the EW-83J lens hood for this lens, who could measure the
outside diameter of the hood for me?...would like to purchase the hood
and also a Lowepro lens case that fits lens with the hood inverted on
the lens, so I need to know the diameter the case needs to accomodate!
Question about lens F-rating on digital slr25 Aug 2006 02:02 GMT13
Take a full frame camera and a 1.6 crop digital.
Put a F2.8L lens on both. Set both cameras to automatic and same ISO and
take exactly the same shot. Will the shutter speed on the 1.6 crop camera
be the same as the other, or do camera manufacturers "tune" the internal

Smugmug... thoughts?24 Aug 2006 18:11 GMT3
What are your thoughts on Smugmug?
I've subscribed for the 14 day trial. So far I'm enjoying, but I'm trying to
weight if it is worthy to pay for the year subscription.
Also, if you are a member, it would be nice if you could tell what is your
Sizzling Flash sound from Pentax *ist DL?24 Aug 2006 11:48 GMT4
I recently received a replacement *ist DL after I returned my old one
for a non-functioning flash.
However, I'm now seeing (or rather hearing) some behavior from my new
*ist's flash that makes me wonder whether everything is okay.
