mail order buying17 Mar 2006 08:08 GMT25
Thanks for everyone's advice on weather to go with the Nikon D50/ D70
or Canon Rebel XT.
I decided to go with the Nikon.  It just had a better more solid feel.
The D50 was the model I chose as an entry level.  I liked the Tamaron
OM studio 1.5 defish tool17 Mar 2006 07:25 GMT4
These were taken with the peleng 8mm fisheye. I had to swap the exif data
from a ZD fisheye shot before studio would let me apply the fisheye
correction tool but they turned out nice. These were interior shots taken
from inside the same bedroom which required an ultra wide angle ...
Another dumb question from a dslr newbie -- camera shake?17 Mar 2006 07:00 GMT24
In 35mm film, I used to use the rule of thumb that I could hand hold
without noticable shake as long as the shutter speed was faster than
about 1/f, i.e. with my f=50mm lens, I could shoot 1/60 or faster and
be OK.  With my f=180mm, I would aim for 1/250 or faster.  If I could
Hitachi Microdrive in 20D17 Mar 2006 05:08 GMT14
I'm unable to get Hitachi 4GB microdrive to work in Canon 20D. It's
HMS360604D5CF00 model (a.k.a. 3K6-4) which according to Hitachi is
compatible with 20D:

D2X and 17-55mm; focus is off at widest end.17 Mar 2006 00:25 GMT1
Can anybody tell me whether my 17-55 2.8DX, or D2X is at fault here...
or whether this is a common problem. Using autofocus, my camera is
unable to get correct focus on a chosen point at 17mm; it appears about
sharp in the viewfinder (very hard to judge at the wide end of course),

Macro lens or mode on P&S?15 Mar 2006 21:10 GMT1
Macro lenses are designed for close-ups of small subjects such as
insects, flowers, and other natural objects, as well as for flat,
inanimate objects such as stamps and coins.
I find it's much easier to take such close-up shots
Need your two cents...15 Mar 2006 15:07 GMT14
I'm a designer who's recently been heavily dependent on stock photos
and need one now that should get the attention of your 'typical'
photographer/hobbyist....

Flare problem14 Mar 2006 12:42 GMT6
Is this flare?
http://peter.greatnowhere.com/g2/main.php?g2_itemId=1036&g2_navId=xd4c2221e
I think it is. Canon 28-135 IS USM lens, 20D body. Does this lens have a
known flare problem, or  I have a dud?
Architectural film12 Mar 2006 19:59 GMT8
What would be a good film for architectural photos?  I was thinking a
slow film to show less grain, but would something that has a lot of
color saturation be good to use as well?
Any suggestions on film choice?

I am recent entry into the Digital SLR game. I have a EOS 350D. I have the

Solar charging Canon batteries12 Mar 2006 08:22 GMT7
Does anyone have any comments on using solar power to charge Canon NiMH
batteries? I'm wondering (in the interests of economy of both cash and
mass) whether it's possible to modify the NC-E2 charger so that I can
connect portable solar panels (or any other low-voltage source) to ...
