A photographer friend of mine processes everything in Photoshop in 16 bit RAW. When he wants to have a print made he changes the image to an 8 bit tif. He says that the reason for dropping to 8 bit is that most photo labs have 8 bit printers.

I'm using Nikon Capture 4 with all the updates & it works fine except when I try to convert NEF files into JPG using batch processing it crashes after the first 2 files & creates an error log. The problem is why does it crash & where do I find the error log.

I recently went to Rome to take some pictures at the Coliseum, The Vatican and the Monument of Vittorio. At each location I tried to use my tripod but officials told me to put it away.

Two weeks ago I get my new CANAON EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT 350D. Accidentally a made a shot with the lens caps on. The last picture should be black, but, to my surprise, there was a group of dark red specks in the image.

Okay, I have to multiply focal length by 1.5 when I put a lens for film on my digital camera. Does this mean I have to do the same with F-numbers like a teleconverter? Thanks,

My thanks to all who responded to my post regarding RAW + Jpeg. I downloaded the extractor and I am very pleased with the ability to make adjustments using the PSE3 Plug-in. I have the zeal of the convert and will now shoot only RAW with my beloved D70s.

Can anyone recommend a scanner that will get black and white negative images onto a PC? I'm not after anything fancy and will only need to use it to convert some old negatives.

I have been trying to use my Vivitar 283 flash with a small, optical, slave trigger to throw extra light onto the background sheet. I have used this many times in the past with my film SLR and it used to work great.
