dynamic range22 Feb 2006 20:45 GMT43
Could there be a filter to increase dynamic range? Kinda like a
polarizer that blocks bright light while letting in dim shadow detail?
As I understand, whatever the camera is capable of capturing before the
highlights blow is squeezed into the same file format between black &
16bit vs 8 bit for prints22 Feb 2006 20:06 GMT56
A photographer friend of mine processes everything in Photoshop in 16 bit
RAW.  When he wants to have a print made he changes the image to an 8 bit
tif.  He says that the reason for dropping to 8 bit is that most photo labs
have 8 bit printers.
Nikon Capture22 Feb 2006 19:16 GMT9
I'm using Nikon Capture 4 with all the updates & it works fine except when I
try to convert NEF files into JPG using batch processing it crashes after
the first 2 files & creates an error log.
The problem is why does it crash & where do I find the error log.
RAW vs. RAW + JPEG22 Feb 2006 16:00 GMT39
I am a novice with a D70S and want to begin experimenting with RAW.
What are the practical applications of just shooting RAW versus RAW +
JPEG?
I also use PSE3 to organize and edit photos. I downloaded the latest
Questions for Canon 5D owners/users22 Feb 2006 12:06 GMT29
My new DSLR plan comes closer to reality. I am now taking a closer look
at the 5D. If acquired, I think I shall get together with the 24-105/4L
IS and the 430 flashgun to start my new DSLR system.
Just wish to seek assistance from you 5D guys on the following:-

Photo Trip to Rome21 Feb 2006 19:46 GMT9
I recently went to Rome to take some pictures at the Coliseum, The Vatican
and the Monument of Vittorio.
At each location I tried to use my tripod but officials told me to put it
away.
Picture taken with the lens caps on, ISO = 400, exposure = 1", has red dark specks of 3x3px size21 Feb 2006 15:53 GMT4
Two weeks ago I get my new CANAON EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT 350D.
Accidentally a made a shot with the lens caps on.
The last picture should be black, but, to my surprise, there was a
group of dark red specks in the image.
International Battery Charger?21 Feb 2006 12:34 GMT20
I have a Nikon D70. What do I need to re-charge the Batteries in Italy?
35mm (film) lenses on digital camera, do I lose lens speed as well?21 Feb 2006 11:24 GMT8
Okay, I have to multiply focal length by 1.5 when I put a lens for film
on my digital camera. Does this mean I have to do the same with F-numbers
like a teleconverter?
Thanks,
RAW - File Size Changes when Saved as .psd20 Feb 2006 21:47 GMT9
My thanks to all who responded to my post regarding RAW + Jpeg. I
downloaded the extractor and I am very pleased with the ability to
make adjustments using the PSE3 Plug-in. I have the zeal of the
convert and will now shoot only RAW with my beloved D70s.
B&W Negative Scanner20 Feb 2006 18:56 GMT7
Can anyone recommend a scanner that will get black and white negative images
onto a PC?
I'm not after anything fancy and will only need to use it to convert some
old negatives.
Review of Stitcher panorama software and Competition reminder20 Feb 2006 18:50 GMT10
I've just posted a review of Realviz Stitcher, which plays quite nicely
with Photoshop:

Nikon D70 slave flash trigger problem20 Feb 2006 17:25 GMT4
I have been trying to use my Vivitar 283 flash with a small, optical,
slave trigger to throw extra light onto the background sheet.
I have used this many times in the past with my film SLR and it used to
work great.
Pentax *ist DL - wide angle options?20 Feb 2006 03:37 GMT5
I've just bought a Pentax *ist DL with SMC 18mm-55mm lens. I'm very happy
with the camera and lens but I occasionally have to take photos of room
interiors and could do with a wider angle option. I don't do this often
enough to justify the expense of a high qulaity lens and the ...
