Question about high speed flash card readers31 Jan 2006 22:10 GMT14
I use CompactFlash cards and was looking for a flash card reader. It looks
like just about all the brands I have seen are advertised as high speed.
Is the speed really the use of USB 2.0 ? Or, is some readers actually made
to be fast?
slr vs compact - inherrent image quality?31 Jan 2006 15:10 GMT8
I use a D1X at work and we are hoping to upgrade before long, but
it is hard work convincing people..... :(     anyway, I have still been
using film at home, 35 mm and medium format, but decided that as I no
longer have the ability to print and process my stuff (at work) I ...
Nikon ED Lenses versus G Lenses31 Jan 2006 01:39 GMT29
Do you think the quality difference between Nikon "ED" and "G" lenses are
worth the price difference?  The ED lenses are touted to be better, and they
are certainly heavier. They seem to have more glass. I am leaning heavily
toward buying the "ED"'s.
dslr vs 35mm film lens viability31 Jan 2006 00:58 GMT14
Hi all...
I have started to put together a lens collection to use with my new Rebel
XT. Currently have the kit lens, a 100-300mm usm, 50mm f1.8, 24mm f2.8 and
have a 20-35mm usm lens comming. Other than the 100-300 lens and the kit
Canon Digital SLR rebel XT and Speedlit 580 firing spontaneously30 Jan 2006 18:47 GMT5
Howdy all,
Is anyone having a problem with an external flash, I'm using a canon
speedlite 580EX, and the canon digital rebel XT?  My problem is that
the external flash fires spontaneously, particularly when I shift from
venting- CS2 upgrade frustration30 Jan 2006 15:56 GMT20
Just have to vent somewhere about the SERIOUSLY irritating fact that the
CS2 upgrade BOX simply says "requires previous version to install"... but
when one actually goes to install it, it informs you that said previous
version must be at least version 5.5.  Needless to say, ...
Live LCD preview soon to come for a dSLR?30 Jan 2006 10:14 GMT79
The review of the KM Dynax 5D at dcresource.com contains the following
sentence, which is very intriguing at least to me:
"Just a reminder for those of you new to D-SLRs: the LCD screen is
for
Persistant dust on sensor29 Jan 2006 22:21 GMT10
I've got a nast blob of 'dust' (more like a booger LOL) on my D70 sensor
which multiple passes of pec pads & eclipse solution did not effect. I
even kind of scrubbed on that area with extra fluid!
Any other ideas for stubborn grime?
Q:  any usrs of "Genuine Fractals"?29 Jan 2006 22:21 GMT2
The most recent Shutterbug gave a rather glowing report to the
program/PhotoShop plug-in "Genuine Fractals", but since they rarely -- if
ever -- publish anything but positive reviews, I was wondering if there are
any users out there who can shed some light on the programs pluses ...
Using Minolta AF lenses with Nikon D50?29 Jan 2006 20:09 GMT2
I am an old-time user of Minolta, having owned Maxxum 7000,8000i and
9xi. Now I want to move to a Digital SLR. I was thinking of Maxxum 5D,
so that I may be able to use my AF lenses and flash which I already
have. BUT.. as Minolta has sold off its camera business, I'm not so

P&S -> DSLP29 Jan 2006 08:33 GMT8
I have never used a DSLP before.  I am sick of my Sony W1.  I'd like to buy a DSLP to replace the Sony.  The Sony is not that good.  It is a pain to use the Sony.  I think the len doesn't let enough light to go in the camera.  The Sony likes to slow down the shutter speed to 1/30 ...
Question on sizing lense attachments29 Jan 2006 06:29 GMT33
I got a grat deal on a digital Canon EOS Rebel, I am interested in investing
in some more lenses and assessories. This is my first 'real' camera.
I haven't had one that you can change the lense on before, how do you size a
lense, filter etc at the attachment point?
Question about picture viewers28 Jan 2006 22:48 GMT4
At the risk of being flamed by some here who will describe this as the
'ultimate chimp', I have a question.  Has anyone here used a product
like this one - http://tinyurl.com/9a7t4 - to review the shots they've
taken in the field?  I will readily admit to being a learning
Very cold28 Jan 2006 16:09 GMT7
Can temperatures in range of -15C...-20C (about -10F) stop lens from
working? I've had it several times when aperture control + AF wouldn't work
outdoors. Cycling battery power usually helped. Is this a problem with lens,
or 'normal' and I simply shouldn't expose camera to such ...
