Ye Olde 35mm shutter speed rule of thumb ... digitized19 Dec 2005 00:38 GMT10
We all probably know the traditional rule of thumb for the minimum
shutter speed on 35mm SLR's, namely 1/(lens focal length in
millimeters).  Thus, we use 1/60sec for a 50mm lens, etc.
For full frame dSLR's, it is logical that this rule would still apply
Nikon customer service - D70 problem18 Dec 2005 21:48 GMT1
As mentioned here a few weeks ago, my D70 (two years old) was cycling thru various shutter speed and
aperture settings whenever I turned it on or restarted the meter (7 second default shutdown time).
I sent the camera to the Melleville, NY, center for repair.
Got it back last week. ...

D50 w/o DOF...work around?18 Dec 2005 07:45 GMT3
The D50 fits my skill level, budget, and hands pretty well, and I am all
set to spend some $ - but I as I am interested in photography as art, I
suspect I might miss the DOF preview.  So, what are my work around
options, other then the D70s?  Does the LCD help?  Can I buy a ...
How can you photograph a crow in the snow?18 Dec 2005 06:12 GMT25
Sounds like a Dr Suse book!
But seriously, I have a few crows that come to my front yard, quite tame, and
I'd like to take their picture... but all I get are black holes in the snow!!
Gamma adjustments don't do much good...
Canon 20D serial Number17 Dec 2005 21:17 GMT10
I have a 20D with the serial number rubbed off the s/n plate
underneath. This is a known problem & Canon state on their website
that it does not effect the warrantee as the s/n is embedded in the
camera...
f/0.75 lens17 Dec 2005 02:35 GMT27
I have been collecting lenses from old medical machines that have been
sent to the metal recycling yards.  They don't have any apertures but
they are pretty fast glass.  The advantage of buying glass from
recycling yards is that most lenses sell for less than a dollar.
Any sign of the D200 yet?17 Dec 2005 02:06 GMT9

Nikon Raw support within PhotoShop CS2 & D20016 Dec 2005 19:21 GMT18
Will the Nikon D200 ship with a new Raw plugin for Photoshop CS2 or is the
same converter used across Nikon's entire DSLR range(D2X - D70s)?
Resolution and pixel size not directly related?16 Dec 2005 01:20 GMT8
Pixel size should determine how much detail (resolution) an image
presents.  A 12m sensor using a 100mm lens should out-resolve another
12m sensor with a larger pixel size using the same lens, the only
difference being the larger sensor would show a greater angle of view,
Nikon Capture/XP SP2/AMD 6415 Dec 2005 22:16 GMT5
When I run Capture (4.2) on my new PC it immediately reboots the machine. I
transpires this is a known bug.
a.Anyone know of a workaround? (I've tried excluding Capture in the 'Data
Execution Prevention' exceptions - that didn't work).
