Hiding the photographer19 Jul 2005 17:54 GMT26
Since I started shooting classic vehicles, I've been playing "find the
photographer" in all the shiny surfaces. I just came up with one I'd
missed, me in a hood ornament on a 1930 Ford Phaeton. That has a
perfectly round, very highly polished, chrome base, so there probably
Need help with some basics ...19 Jul 2005 11:02 GMT22
Being new to DSLR photography I'd like to think that I'm slowly coming to
terms with the basics, but playing with my 350D tonight I've come across
something I don't understand.
Can someone help me out here? ...
Shutter Life18 Jul 2005 22:41 GMT15
I mentioned this in a previous post, but I think it got buried in the chat
about lens mounts ...
I noticed in the 350D specs that the shutter is rated at 50,000 operations,
and that the 20D is rated at 100,000.
Maxxum 5D and new K-M lenses an encouraging sign18 Jul 2005 22:05 GMT7
At least for us Maxxum types...
I see that the rumored Maxxum 5D has been announced.  6 Mpx is a bit of
a downer, but they retained the A-S (which seems excessive to me if
they want to reach a broader market).  The 5d will likely be in my SO's

Rebel XT/350 still dominating the reviews18 Jul 2005 18:00 GMT23
Saw another magazine review of it and the D70
and the Rebel is still winning the image game
at least.  Most reviews note that the Nikon
is more ergonomically "friendly" but image quality
Ideal DSLR18 Jul 2005 16:31 GMT13
I have a Canon EOS 10D, which I am slowly learning to love.  Slowly,
because it has taken me two years to learn to deal with the narrow
dynamic range.  I am finally achieving a systematic approach to
avoiding blown highlights.  Still, I want a better camera.
Why I hope Minolta survives18 Jul 2005 05:57 GMT3
Years ago, I saved up enough money to buy a new
"do everything" 35mm SRL called a Minolta XD-11.
It was awesome, the quality of it's pictures and the
accuracy of the thing (exposure, etc) was superb.

Canon Rebel XT or Nikon?16 Jul 2005 18:32 GMT17
I own a Nikon 6006 slr with two good Nikkor zoom lenses.  Therefore, if
getting a digial slr, Nikon would seem to be the way to go.
But the Nikon D100 feels very heavy and bulky in my (small) hands.  The
Canon Rebel XT feels a lot more comfortable to hold.
Flash and Bracket for Canon 300D16 Jul 2005 17:45 GMT11
Slowly but surely adding to my kit.  I am starting to look a flashes and
brackets.  Any suggestions from the group for a good flash and sturdy
L-bracket? Thanks
Noisy sensors -myth explored16 Jul 2005 16:28 GMT482
So... You all think the 20D is a low noise camera, do you?
I suppose the Panasonic and Olympus sensors are pretty bad at high ISO
too, eh? Well maybe for a tech-head the specs might say so but what
about a photographer who takes photographs? would he/she know the
Canon's 20D and Rebel XT, differences?16 Jul 2005 14:30 GMT9
Are the sensor and processor the same in both cameras?
Nikon's new 200/2 IS!16 Jul 2005 14:17 GMT1
$4000.  Wow!  This seems a little expensive, but I guess it would
be worse if you had to pair it with a full-frame sensor and "only" got
200mm out of it, instead of 300mm.  This lens should make sports
photogs pretty happy because with a 2x teleconverter they'll get a
D70 vs D50?16 Jul 2005 07:59 GMT9
If I stay with Nikon (Ialready have lenses), the D50 and the D70 seem to
be the realistic choices.  I have tiny hands, less vision of 20/35
(corrected).
So I want something I feel comfortable holding.  And I want something
