DSLR and infrared22 May 2005 21:46 GMT12
Is it possible to remove all visible colour wavelengths
in software post-processing, leaving you with only the infrared image,
rather than use an infrared filter?  I figure you could
use a narrow enough aperture on the lens to accommodate
Easy Photo Print Upgrades/Alternatives22 May 2005 19:08 GMT2
I am just learning baout a new 20D.  AS remarked on elsewhere,  most/all
shots require a tweak to bring up the brightness.
No problem with Photoshop but time consuming.
The simple  "Easy Photo Print" software could be much faster with batch jobs
Anybody hacking D70 firmware?22 May 2005 17:14 GMT17
I can think of a lot of features I'd love to see on my D70.  For one, it
would be great to have a real, honest to goodness "point and shoot" setting
for those times when you don't want to futz around with settings and
curves -- where the image doesn't have to be perfect, just ...
Which printer to print my Rebel photos?22 May 2005 17:07 GMT8
I want the prints to look professional, studio quality & not like they were
printed at home.
Also, not too expensive per photo.
Any suggestions?
Bruce RGB and otehr wide gamuts on 20D22 May 2005 10:27 GMT2
Is there a way to use the BruceRGB or other wide gamut color spaces on
the 20D?

Thanks, Alan21 May 2005 18:30 GMT5
Alan,
I used one of your tips for shooting sunsets and it worked like a charm.
Got very close on the first try, and then bracketed a bit just to get some
different effects.  When I swapped lenses to my 80~200 AI I just started
xResolution setting on D1x21 May 2005 16:08 GMT3
Is there a way to set the x and y resolution on my camera so that when
opening in Photoshop it displays at say 600 verses 300 that Nikons are
generally set at?  I know the settings are meaningless to the camera but
it's one less step for me.
Infra Red with DSLRs21 May 2005 14:29 GMT14
Has anyone played about with infra red with their DSLR?
I used a Fuji S3 Pro and a Cokin 89B filter to produce these images:

Rebel XT DSLR versus Olympus C8080 prosumer21 May 2005 12:26 GMT5
Canon had the standard kit zoom.
You can see the difference in noise, the Canon's image has
a smoothness the C8080s lacks and it cannot be duplicated by
using noise removal software.
Nikon 12-24mm f/4 DX zoom21 May 2005 08:16 GMT40
I am giving serious thought to getting one of these for my D70. Has anyone
got any comments on performance?
According to Thom Hogan you can use this on a full frame SLR from about
17mm onwards with good results, but I am more concerned with how it will
Who's buying all those Leica rangefinder lens21 May 2005 00:39 GMT4
Was just browsing thru rangefinder lenses on eBay and saw a ton of
Leica lenses on auction with no bidders but the prices were
astronomical!! Just wondering, is the difference in quality (wrt to
high-end SLR lenses) so high to justify such high prices for *used*
Definition of DSLR20 May 2005 23:31 GMT22
A single lens reflex used to be considered
a camera with a viewfinder that imaged through
the lens.  But nearly all digital cameras do this,
albeit using an electronic screen for the image.
When "not" to use a U/V filter?20 May 2005 18:27 GMT9
I usually shoot in bright sunlight with a lens hood and a U/V filter.  Is
the U/V filter necessary with a lens hood?  I don't see much danger in
damaging the lens with a large hood.
The only situation where things look bad20 May 2005 15:58 GMT8
As far as I can see, the only time I've seen digital
images where things look "bad" is where you shoot
things like tree limbs against a bright sky background.
The lack of resolution (if they are far enough away)
