Whatever happened to FAST lenses???26 Apr 2005 02:47 GMT14
Especially when you consider the sensors in the
cameras today are (for the most part) smaller than
35mm film.  In the prosumer class, Olympus C-5050
was the last with an f1.8 lens, now they're all

Ranking the worst of the kit lenses26 Apr 2005 01:32 GMT28
From what I gather, the standard zoom supplied
with the entry level DSLRs would rank something
like this, worst to best.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

U/V Filters - Pro's and Con's?25 Apr 2005 20:39 GMT3
I'm considering a D70 with a 24mm-120mm VR lens. In the past, I have
always used a polorizing filter on my film type SLR lenses for
protection. I occasionally see posts that claim that a filter is not
necessary. What would the advantages be for **not** using a filter?

Canon Rebel XT - Shutter Life25 Apr 2005 19:12 GMT3
I have read over at :
http://www.shopping.com/xPR-Canon_Digital_Rebel_XT_18_55mm~RD-178859642500
that the shutter life (MTBF) of the Rebel XT is at 50,000. At first that
seemed really low to me. However, considering that is an average, maybe it
New Canon DSLR Camera question 25 Apr 2005 15:42 GMT7
Recently purchased a Canon 300D from B&H.
Quite a change from my Rebel 2000.
A whole lot of whistles and bells and looks to be quite a learning curve
ahead.

I have just got the Canon EOS 350d (Digital Rebel XT), and being my first
SLR  camera I'm a bit lost when it comes to the manual options. Can anyone
suggest a website or book that will help me get the best from the camera?
70-200mm VR Nikkor (how fast is it?)25 Apr 2005 13:52 GMT11
How fast is the 70-200 VR on a D70? I've read nothing but mixed
opinions for the 80-200 in that it is a superb lens but operates
sluggishly on DSLRs.
I have no opinion, but I do have a D70. I learned today at my girl's

300D crippled firmware25 Apr 2005 05:01 GMT21
Now that the 350D is out, do you think us 300D owners could make enough
noise to get canon to uncripple the 300d?  I have the hacked firmware on
mine but I'd love to get AI servo in all modes...
digital vs. medium format25 Apr 2005 00:24 GMT103
Hey folks -
I was looking at picking up a used MF camera in my area ( ~ $500 ) and
the sales guy was giving me a hard pitch on the digital cameras they
have in stock. Specifically he was harping on the Canon 10D. He showed
