Not totally OT, but not DSLR.
Sister in Law just come back from a wonderful holiday and lost the images on
their compact digi cam.

I can't format it in my computer or camera.  Is there anything else I
can try?  It looks fine.

I started with digigal cameras with a simple point and shoot.  I'd now
like to evolve into a  slr system.
I have a couple of older Nikon lenses that I used with my Nikon film
bodies.  

I tested the backfocus of the Maxxum 7D.  Links below.
For the 100mm lens, all seems well.
For the  50mm lens, it seems to focus camera side of the target.
Any ideas?

Anyone have any suggestions on a 300mm telephoto for the Canon Drebel
300?  I currently have a Quataray 100-300 f4.5...I know, I know...you
get what you pay for but money is an issue.  I would like to get
something faster because I shoot a lot of fastpitch softball and soccer

I'd like to travel without carrying a notebook computer and copy the
image files from CF cards to a CD, preferable several CF cards to a
single CD. I'd then mail the CD home for safe keeping. Is there such a
thing as a CF-card-to-CD burner that does not required a separate

Does anyone who has tried the XT have on opinion as to whether the 20D is
worth $500 more?  I'm most interested in shutter lag.  I'd really like a
digital camera that could do as good a job as a $5 throw-away film camera
when it came to letting ME decide when to take the picture.  ...

They disliked the Canon 300 and Nikon D70 builds, saying
the build quality was poor.  They loved the Canon
20D's build quality.  Does the plastic outer housing

Take what the naysayers post about this lens with a grain of salt.  Most of
them have never owned it, which is obvious from their comments.  This shot
was taken in the Florida Everglades under cloudy conditions and from a
