Good news. The two gears and chain apparatus that couple the head's forward and back movement were missing. I got the parts from the local tractor shop, and installed them before noon today, Sunday. Perfect fit! Got to love made stone-standard US industrial parts.

I broke down and got the Saltzman sales literature from John Craig <http://www.craigcamera.com/>, and it is enormously helpful. Richard K - as you mentioned, there are many models, and I saw the camera dolly you suggested. Very interesting stuff.

Registration punches and carriers for projection (enlarging) 8x10 and also for contact printing 8x10 and larger. All I've found so far are very large registration punches intended for nonphotographic printing, or some dauntingly expensive photographic systems.
