What makes film react logarithmically?30 Sep 2006 21:22 GMT7
according to the Weber-Fechner-law our visual perception reacts in a
logarithmic way to lightness/brightness. That is the intensity has to
increase by steps of equal ratio (1,2,4,8, etc) in order to be
perceived as double as bright. Does anybody know what makes silver film
chemicals for infrequent use30 Sep 2006 20:00 GMT52
I'm getting back into darkroom work after many years, because my 13 year
old daughter is interested.  I don't think we will be using the darkroom
more than 4-5 times a month (two rolls of film and/or maybe 10 8x10
prints each time).  We're using Ilford film.  I'm interested in ...
What are people charging for an 8X10?29 Sep 2006 22:21 GMT3
I recently looked at a local studio's price list and was shocked. An 8X10
was going for $40 for a wedding shoot. Is this high low or in the middle?
Thx.

Epson Perfection V750 - fluid mount?26 Sep 2006 14:45 GMT1
I might be acquiring a medium-format camera soonish and was just
checking out what the current crop of flat-bed scanners can do
(I have a dedicated film scanner for 35mm but it can't do MF.)
I stumbled upon the Epson Perfection V750 and something caught my eye:
Dektol for film24 Sep 2006 14:57 GMT40
I gave a 4x5 Graphic to a chap who's a bit poor.
What's the recommended dilution of Dektol and Efke 25 film? Any clue? Would
it even work half-bad?
KRST label lists 22 g/l Sodium Selenite23 Sep 2006 18:19 GMT12
September 14, 2006, from Lloyd Erlick,
I haven't had to buy selenium toner since
1999, when I bought two one gallon
containers. Now I wish I had bought five or
Can i Make a makeshift darkroom safelight? please help .23 Sep 2006 16:33 GMT27
i'd like to set-up a darkroom in my apt. (ive always only worked in public
labs...highschool. college, etc. )  i have a standard ceiling light fixture

anyone scan 4x5 negs?23 Sep 2006 01:57 GMT5
with a sub-$500.00 scanner that is. i have heard things about the epson
4990, canon 9950, and a minolta too. i need decent results. i know drum
scanning is the best way, but does anyone get respectable (examples???)

Xtol gone bad?23 Sep 2006 01:04 GMT8
If I get negatives with consistently missing shadow and/or highlights, could it
be because there's something wrong with my Xtol developer? The previous two rolls
(fp4+, tri-x 400) were developed with Xtol out of the same bottle:
The fp4+ with 1+0 dilution, 8 minutes at 20C. Tri-x ...
Pyro & selenium toning of negatives21 Sep 2006 22:46 GMT12
I usually tone my negatives in dilute (1:30) KRST, but I've never done this
with my films developed in PMK. I can't think of any reason why I shouldn't,
since I believe that the KRST has a positive ph & shouldn't detract from the
stain. Any other opinions?
developing tank for 3 meter 10' 35mm film20 Sep 2006 23:21 GMT2
Hi, I am looking for a developing tank for our 3 meter (or 10') long
35mm B/W film from a home-made camera.  want to keep the film
continuous without cutting.  I'v checked JOBO tanks but didn't find a
good one.  I am not sure if 2500 can hold 3 meter 35mm film.  Any one
Marking the back of RC prints: Castell #8B pencil18 Sep 2006 13:50 GMT1
A #8B Faber-Castell 9000 pencil does a good job of
making notes on the back of RC B&W prints.  I like to
jot down exposure data when I make a print so I can
make some sense of the printing session on the next
Parts for Burke & James Solar enlarger available18 Sep 2006 06:27 GMT1
I don't know anything about enlargers. I got this thing to use the
column but there are some parts I don't need, including the switch, an
image holder, the big lens, the small lens, and the big round top
thing (like I said, I know nothing about 'em).
