How does one become a master printer?06 Mar 2006 23:59 GMT32
Here's a question that I haven't seen asked on the internet:  how does
one become a master printer?  I'm not looking for a quick recipe, but I
want to know what it takes.  Is it a matter of getting a good
background in photography at a school, landing a job in a lab, honing

February 15, 2006, from Lloyd Erlick,
I've recently been putting my darkroom back
into operation after a hiatus of a couple of
years.
extremely frustrated with stainless steel reels06 Mar 2006 00:45 GMT28
Hello, everyone.  I used to do a lot of darkroom work and had no
trouble loading 35mm onto stainless steel reels.  Now, after a 4 year
break, I can't load a full roll for the life of me, even after
practicing in the light.
steel reels -- thanks for advice05 Mar 2006 04:08 GMT1
Thanks again for recommendations about steel reels a few days ago.  I
received my Hewes reel today, and loaded it perfectly on the first try.
I can't believe how much time I wasted with the Kalt.
By the way, B&H sells Hewes under the "King-Concept" brand.  It came in
Wanted:Film Recorder05 Mar 2006 03:58 GMT1
Looking for a film recorder. There are 2 types, a CRT or LVT. What it
does is take a digital image and displays it via the CRT, where a camera
is then used with negative film at the other end of the device to take a
picture of it. Polaroid, Agfa, and Lasergraphics are some of the

I'm curious to know if list members think that it's desirable to manage
their profession/avocation with software and, if so, what features they
need.

Where has Pure-Silver gone ?04 Mar 2006 21:40 GMT3
It has been almost two months since I last received a message from the
Pure-Silver mailing list. And I cannot seem to find it anywhere on the
net anymore. Does anybody know what has happened to Pure-Silver?

JG Saltzman Enlarger Roller Chain04 Mar 2006 05:47 GMT2
I've been "rebuilding" old Saltzman 8x10 enlarger. The enlarger is
chain driven with roller chains. I need just one master link.
Nonetheless when I traveled to different hardware stores and bicycle
shops I was unable to purchase the correct link. I looked to see if I

Is Ilford Rapid Fix at 1+4 with Fuji Acros for 6 mins not enough?
Fresh mix came out pink and film appears to be re-fixed...

DiXactol Tests03 Mar 2006 16:08 GMT45
I'm testing a number of film/developer combinations.  It seems that
DiXactol does not produce the densities promised at recommended ie's and
dilutions. Can anyone else confirm or comment on this?

photos stuck together03 Mar 2006 13:57 GMT2
I need some advice on how to separate B&W photos that have been stuck
together.
These are from 1980 and are standard glossy paper as far as I can tell.
There are just four 10x10's stuck together.
