Archive of Barry Thornton's Unzone articles.17 Mar 2005 18:28 GMT4
Does anyone have an archive of Barry Thornton's "unzone" articles, as
published on his web-site (www.barry-thornton.co.uk)?  Sadly i
discovered them after he died and before the web-site was shutdown.
Unaware of the situation i never made copies.  i've tried Google but
HP cosidering buying Kodak16 Mar 2005 19:39 GMT26
This morning's NY Times has an article about HP's future with a new CEO.
One of their considered strategies to maximize their strength in
printers would be to purchase Kodak. If they do I wonder what that will
mean for their film business?
Opemus enlarger--Help14 Mar 2005 22:37 GMT5
I the expense of really sounding stupid I need to ask a very naiv
question.  Hope someone can help.
My son purchased an enlarger off of E-bay.  Its an Opemus III.  He's a
eager young photo enthusiast and is trying to set up his darkroom. Whe
E-6 Processing: Best or Most Cost Efficient?14 Mar 2005 22:28 GMT4
I've wondered for some time if E-6 labs (or C41 for that matter) are
set up to get your film through the process in the shortest amount of
time versus what would be required for the best quality. These are all
silver-based processes, and anyone who has developed their own B&W film
Kodalith Fine Line Developer14 Mar 2005 19:55 GMT5
A friend uses this developer to make some beautiful prints, but has run out
of her supply.  I searched in Google for a source and found none.  Does
anyone know if this is still available?  Alternatively, does anyone have a
formula for mixing it yourself?  Thanks in advance.
fresh paper woes14 Mar 2005 16:43 GMT4
I just bought a selection of b&w paper from B&H. I want to run some
comparison tests, so I got 25 sheet packs of every 8x10 fiber paper
they carry.
I was a bit dismayed to get two packs of very short dated paper (agfa,

Exposure time for Agfa paper13 Mar 2005 22:36 GMT5
Yesterday, after almost 25 years pause, I tried to make
my own prints at home. Although I managed to make some
decent photos, I got a problem - exposure time seems to be
too short. With lens closed down to 8 - 11 ( and for MF down

true B&W  roller transport processing12 Mar 2005 05:44 GMT12

in setting it up to process black and white prints. Can this be done?
Are there chems out there for this type of work?

Help with Kodak Roll and sheet film pinkish coating!!11 Mar 2005 13:31 GMT27
Alrighty I'm sure this is redundant but here goes and please advise!!
I'm having a terrible time clearing that pinkish halide or ? coating from
my Kodak films from 120 Roll (Tmax and Tri-X) as well as my sheet film of
the same. I'm processing in a Jobo and am using both a 5 minute ...
Agfa Pan-X 400 / D76 times11 Mar 2005 11:47 GMT6
Alright. I think Agfa Pan-X is a new film, according to its white
papers. The 400 film seems to shoot like 200 and this is troubling to
me. I'm developing it in D76 at roughly 1:1 and 12 minutes isn't cutting
it. I'm just about to shoot a concert with it and I'd like to know if
Musings on washing fiber-based prints11 Mar 2005 11:33 GMT96
Just wondering, dreaming of the day I might actually try to make prints on
"real" (i.e., fiber-based as opposed to RC) paper ...
So, as most of us know, one of the big problems with FB is washing. And one of
the things that turns me off of using it is the enormous quantity of water
What are accepted figures for signal/noise (SNR) and dynamic range for CRT? LCD? Film? Human eye?10 Mar 2005 23:04 GMT43
I'm converting my old analog scanning electron microscopes to digital/pc
based.
One of the important questions is how many bits of resolution ie: levels
of greyscale are required. I've heard the analog front ends of the
Techpan in C41: Anyone reversed it?09 Mar 2005 06:08 GMT4
I have been using techpan as a reversal film for many years. I recently
learned that some people where usung it as a neg using flexicolor first
developer to reduce contrast. Has anyone hear tried this for reversal
techpan? I also saw a post somewhere that to use this developer for
