| Paterson VF safelight | 26 Aug 2004 01:38 GMT | 1 |
I have just bought a Paterson safelight via ebay and found out it has the VF dome, not the red one. I have contacted Paterson who say that it might fog Ilford MG, depending on distance. Have I wasted my money or would having the light about 1.5 m away be okay?

| B&W Chemistry Side Effects | 26 Aug 2004 01:01 GMT | 9 |
On occasion I've been experiencing slight headache and tinnitus after leaving the darkroom. Maybe I need to beef up my ventilation? Ouch. Anyone else experience similar or other symptoms? D-76, Stop, Fix, HCL?

| Newbie: Use of Contrast Filters and Exposure Time | 25 Aug 2004 14:44 GMT | 8 |
I'm printing on Kodak RC VC paper. When I use say a +3 contrast filter should I be adding time to my exposure? Thx.

| EV, fstop and timing calculations | 25 Aug 2004 08:22 GMT | 3 |
I'm trying to build an enlarger timer that can do quarter-stop exposure calculations. Working on the web (and glancing at Tim Rudman's f-stop calculation table), I've concluded that the relevant formula is: [t2] = 2 ^ (-1* ( ([scale] -1) * log2 ([f]^2) + [scale]*log2(1/[t1]) ) )

| Agfa | 24 Aug 2004 21:01 GMT | 17 |
All, There was a news article on the German news today how Agfa has sold off it's film division. I only caught a short portion of the rather quick story (why is it wives know exactly the worse time to ask you what you want to

| Color print paper and B&W | 24 Aug 2004 20:37 GMT | 6 |
Okay, it's a stretch and I'm ignorant but I'm involved in buying out an old darkroom where they have a huge load of 14-year-old, oversized (14"+) color negative printing paper. Is there any chance of using this material with B&W chemistry? I'm talking peanuts for price, but if it's ...

| Prolonging print life | 24 Aug 2004 09:59 GMT | 1 |
I have a dry mount album which i bought because I heard that it's bad to put photos in plastic sleeves however this means my photos will get some exposure to air. Is it worth buying some sort of clear spray to "seal" the prints to prevent them

| Best developer for fuji neopan 1600 ? | 23 Aug 2004 10:44 GMT | 18 |
Which developers would the wise folks on this newsgroup recommend for neopan 1600? The aim is to minimise grain (at least somewhat). I've tried T-max, at 24C but this was more grainy than expected. I realise it's going to be fairly grainy anyway.

| Disposal of developing chemicals at home | 23 Aug 2004 10:12 GMT | 15 |
I am in the final stages of re-setting up my darkroom stuff and now, having a young son, I am concerned that disposing of used dev, fix etc down the kitchen sink may not be a good idea. Does anyone have any comments on the safety of doing this, I am concerned that there may be

| why not calcium ? | 23 Aug 2004 08:27 GMT | 5 |
Is there a specific reason why none of the processing formulas specify a calcium salt? They are all either sodium or potassium salts. What is the reason? Thanks,

| Tech Pan and WD2D+? | 23 Aug 2004 04:34 GMT | 10 |
I've had nice results recently with WD2D+ and traditional emulsions. I've got a bunch of Technical Pan in the freezer and it dawned on me that the contrast control of the WD2D might have some potential with the TechPan. I'll go ahead and experiment (I almost hope it isn't

| Contrast Index to Stops | 23 Aug 2004 04:03 GMT | 3 |
The chart below plots development time vs. contrast index. How do I convert contrast index to stops? In other words, if I measure Zone III as EV 12 and Zone VII as EV 17, then I do N development which is 5 stops. Since I'd rather not do tests and don't care that I'm super precise ...

| brown glycin | 23 Aug 2004 00:48 GMT | 14 |
I have a 100g sealed plastic container of Formulary glycin that's 2-3 years old. It's a brownish color. Does that mean it's definately bad or is there hope?

| Is there a good commercial B & W Lab | 22 Aug 2004 15:40 GMT | 2 |
I rarely shoot B & W, but have always liked it with a lot of contrast. However recent experience is that the results are awful. They are just a boring pale grey, Years ago they use to come back contrasty and look great.
