Acetone to strip emulsion off of base + MF neg == nada09 Jan 2004 21:58 GMT7
I did my acetone test with a mf neg- Submerged it in Acetone and
watched it off and on (lightly agitating it) for an hour until the
Acetone evaporated.  The negative eventually just curled up and both
the base and image were still there.  I could begin to see what
Durst coltim ding restored !09 Jan 2004 21:19 GMT2
My darkroom timer - a "Durst Coltim" had lost it's ding some time ago.
Anyway I got around to dismantling it last night and managed to restore the
ding to full heath.
Full details supplied if anybody is interested.
El Nikkor 210mm  ffilter size09 Jan 2004 12:43 GMT3
The filter size of this lens, according to the Nikon service rep I
spoke with is 67mm. Great! I've got the N.D. I need right here to calm
these Aristo Grids down to a better aperture and longer times, but...
huh, my filter size is 67.5mm it seems and no threads take the filter.
Diff. between Nikkor 50 f/2.8 & f/2.8N???09 Jan 2004 05:52 GMT5
What is the difference between the El Nikkor 50mm f/2.8 and f/2.8N
enlarging lenses?
Bob
p.s.  Yes, yes I know -- about $20; but what are the differences in
Why WOULD anyone want variable film development in 35mm?09 Jan 2004 01:26 GMT95
I am just getting back into this after 30 years.  Bought an F4s on eBay; a
couple AF Nikon lenses and even a 600mm F5.6.  Omega condenser and such.
This is not to overtly brag; but it does tell a little about where I am
coming from.
Tales from the Darkroom - Why was the print completely blank?09 Jan 2004 00:28 GMT3
I usually like to think that I can do most tasks well when working in
the dark.  On more than one occasion, I have even whipped up a new batch
of fixer or made a fresh dilution of developer under a safelight.  But,
sometimes one gets overconfident.  Here is a story of one such ...
Film length08 Jan 2004 23:11 GMT11
I have just picked up a bargain on a local auction site in New Zealand and
have already developed 4 or 5 pictures from old school photos.
I am interested to know how long the piece of film should be for different
exposure 35mm films, say 12, 24 and 36 exposure.inches or cm is fine.
Densitometer question08 Jan 2004 19:08 GMT1
Could someone please explain the difference between a reflection and a
transmission densitometer? And perhaps an experienced estimate of the cost
of either? Used, that is! Thanks much.
Tank/Chemical Storage08 Jan 2004 15:20 GMT4
I've got some 8x10 tanks and hangers on the way
(Now I can process more than one at a time!)
and am looking forward to processing my Oklahoma prairie shots
taken last week (along hwys 152 & 54 between Binger & Corn).

The art of contact printing08 Jan 2004 10:20 GMT12
My gosh. I just spent 30 sheets of Azo on one negative, and I doubt
that I will keep more than 5 or 6, and no two are alike. Contact
printing amounts to a whole lot more than simply dangling a
lightbulb above a piece of glass. Mainly because the limitations  to

ATTN:  Ken Burns- whats that cat/isbn/asin # for the Kodak Book on stripping emulsion from base? :)08 Jan 2004 02:17 GMT35
Hey Ken-
You mentioned in a thread you had a book that explained this process.
I contacted Kodak this morning and they have two books that appear to
be related to the book you have (if not one of them being the book you
Adams Zone System 35mm08 Jan 2004 01:59 GMT62
There was some discussion previously concerning Adams, the Zone System and
35mm. As a Christmas gift my sister purchased for me, The Negative by Adams.
Adams writes:

Does Diafine stain negs???07 Jan 2004 20:11 GMT4
I cut a 35mm TMX roll into five strips and tested five developers:
Xtol, Rodinal, Perceptol, Microdol-X, and Diafine.  All the strips have
that typical very light, kind of blue-gray film base except the one
developed in Diafine.  It has a denser, kind of warm gray base.  There
