What is the resolution of typical RC VC glossy paper?13 Jan 2004 13:07 GMT21
I've been experimenting with enlarging some microfiche onto regular RC VC
glossy photographic paper.  Kodak Polycontrast III RC, to be exact.
The fiche is about 4" x 5.75", and I've got it in a 2x3 glass carrier.
This means that I only see about 1/4th of the fiche at a time, but ...

Print processor start up12 Jan 2004 20:12 GMT4
I bought a used thermaphot print processor some months ago and am now
ready to start it up - I had seen it working at the time of purchase
but understood that it had been unused for a while -
I'd heard about soaking the tanks in plain water for a few days prior
Where are you all?12 Jan 2004 20:07 GMT94
The net, for better or worse, is a strange map. May I ask where you all live?
Me, I live very near the Mississippi River, in SE Minnesota.
Non-acid film processing12 Jan 2004 14:23 GMT11
I've read about the supposed virtues of an all-alkaline processing sequence,
one that leaves out the acid stop bath and uses a non-acid fix.  The
reasoning kind of makes sense.the film might somehow be happier if it didn't
get "shocked" by a drastic change in pH.
Mounting press for heat-seal cardboard slide mounts?12 Jan 2004 01:32 GMT3
Does anyone know where I can find a mounting press for heat-seal
cardboard slide mounts? We used one in my high school photo class a
few years back, but I've been unsuccessful in trying to locate one
recently. Does anybody even make them anymore?
Rapid selenium and film11 Jan 2004 23:31 GMT21
I'm planning to include Rapid selenium toner in my Kodak HCA in order to
improve the archival quality of my negatives. I _assume_ that there won't be
any changes in contrast at high dilutions, but I can't find any info on
whether or not color shift, if there is any, in the image ...
Densitometer question11 Jan 2004 21:56 GMT3
Could someone please explain the difference between a reflection and a
transmission densitometer? And perhaps an experienced estimate of the cost
of either? Used, that is! Thanks much.
HCA Keeping properties, etc...11 Jan 2004 19:52 GMT15
The keeping property for Kodak HCA working strength in a tray is 1 day. How
about storing the working strength solution back in a bottle? Does the
addition of Rapid Selenium Toner affect the keeping properties? Also, other
than the fact that rc papers don't need HCA, is there any ...
enlarger light sources11 Jan 2004 13:11 GMT5
Often I have opinions to offer here but this time a question.
I would like a higher output lamp for my Beseler 45. My 1974 Aristo 40
Watt with a modern V54 Aristo lamp is only one stop slower than my new
(2003) Aristo D2 Hi with V54 lamp. As I now work with TCN400(.52 base
TMAX & diluited Rodinal11 Jan 2004 08:23 GMT5
I'One friend of mine and me are interested on developing TMAX, both
100 and 400 ISO, using very diluited solutions of Rodinal, for example
1+300. We have tried this technique with Tech Pan, for 30 mins with
very poor agitation. Is it possible to treat TMAX (100 and 300) in the
Sheet Film / Edge Burning11 Jan 2004 01:07 GMT3
Is it common to have to burn edges of prints when using  sheet films?
I never found it to be a problem with 4x5, first noticed it with 5x7,
and now with 8x10 it really shows.
Is the developer more active around the edges? Could the action of the
Glass carrier specifications11 Jan 2004 01:00 GMT6
What are the design criteria for making a glass negative carrier?  The
negative will be sitting on a piece of glass, which, if not coated, will
reflect about 8% of the light back up to the negative and introduce
scattered light.  Likewise there will be a small amount of ...
