D-23 Questions16 Jan 2004 22:02 GMT17
Hello. Are the times listed for D-76 good starting points for using
D-23? Which would be prefered; straight or 1:1? Any films to avoid
using D-23? For those experienced using D-23; any tips? Thanks.

Problem with Paterson's FX-5016 Jan 2004 16:57 GMT9
I recently decided to try Paterson FX-50. I developed roll of Ilford HP5+
exposed at 250 and it turned out grossly underdeveloped, extremely thin and
with very low contrast (unprintable with a condenser enlarger). I followed the
enclosed instructions faithfully and used distilled ...

Grrr, any alternatives to open the film cassette?15 Jan 2004 12:32 GMT33
Hey guys,
I've been striving to open my TMAX 400's film cassette while I don't have
the so-called cassette opener. I tried using scissors, screwdrivers...well,
I still couldn't open the !@#$ hard top/bottom plate of the film cassette.
Q : Water soaking before developing15 Jan 2004 07:03 GMT12
Well guys, i gotta thanx all of you 'cause i've done opening my !@#$
cassette with bottle opener (plus brute force anyway....)
Having loaded the film into spiral, i then filled the tank with water and
soaked for 2 minutes. Then I pour out the water and filled with developer.
Overexpose, underdevelop . . . ?15 Jan 2004 01:36 GMT8
Hi, I'm here to show off just how ignorant I am _again_!  I picked up a
magazine on b&w photography the other day to find an article on a
photographer taking photos in those famous slot canyons (in Utah;
http://tinyurl.com/38fth?).  He said the contrast was too high between the

Pre Flashing14 Jan 2004 18:31 GMT34
I have a neg that I think will benefit from pre flashing the paper (MG VC-FB
Warmtone).  I have no idea how much time to start with.  Any ideas or
suggestions?  Would a pre flash require a filter or just straight G-2 exposure?
TIA
Black and White film latitude ?13 Jan 2004 23:52 GMT27
We all know that colour negative film has much greater latitude than
reversal (slide) film, but where does your typical black and white negative
film stand in this ?
Is it closer to colour negative, or colour slide, from a latitude
Pre-soaking film ?13 Jan 2004 23:13 GMT19
I had a couple of rolls of B+W film to develop after Christmas so I popped
in to my unheated (and rather cold) darkroom.
I put the films into the spiral tanks and set about getting all the
chemicals up to temperature.
