He is the smartest person I have ever seen posting to a photography newsgroup. People would do well to heed his advice.

| beginner looking for info | 19 Jan 2004 02:00 GMT | 11 |
I've been an amateur photographer for a few years now. I say amateur because I still have a lot to learn, but in contrast I've shot weddings with a friend (about 15 per year for 2 years). I've been wanting to process and print my own b&w for some time now. I'm

| Order of disolving chemicals to make sodium ascorbate | 18 Jan 2004 09:19 GMT | 3 |
When making sodium ascorbate from sodium bicarbonate and ascorbic acid does the order of putting the chemicals into solution matter? FWIW, the 12-30-2001 post that mentions making 1L of a 10% solution transposed the amounts listed for bicarbonate (should be 42.4g) and ascorbic acid ...

| Was I doing the correct thing? | 18 Jan 2004 08:50 GMT | 6 |
After fixing the film, I did a 60-minute washing. I then diluted Kodak PhotoFlo as directed and bathed the film inside the solution for 30 sec. I was confused then - on the PhotoFlo bottle, it said 'Bath for 30 sec, Drain briefly, hang up to dry'.

| beseler 23c questions | 18 Jan 2004 04:09 GMT | 19 |
Well, I just received my beseler 23c. It was in parts, which was expected. There's a light spun-aluminum cylinder that's partially in the upper bellows. It seems it should ride higher than that. I've been trying to work it up, but the top part of the enlarger is tapered inside, ...

| effect of time/temperature to film development? | 17 Jan 2004 18:41 GMT | 4 |
I was wondering (may be beginner's question) how does the time/temperature couple affect the development of a film. I was looking at Ilford tables where it seems that one could achieve the "same" (?) development of a film in a temperature range from 17 to 26C (adjusting the time for ...

Photographer Formulary makes a product called Excel Film Enhancer that can be added to ANY film developer for finer grain and added shadow detail (sounds too good?). Does anyone have any experience with this? I use Xtol 1:1, Delta 400 in rotary.

| conserving properties - D-76 & ID-11 powder | 16 Jan 2004 23:53 GMT | 3 |
A friend lately gave me a can of D-76 powder. And I have some old package of ID-11 in the cabinet. On the bottom of the D-76 I read "20405" and "97". I assume the latter is the year of production? Or is it expiry date...?
