Familiar with: Way Beyond Monochrome?02 Jan 2004 15:39 GMT6
I wondered if anyone was famliar with the book "Way Beyond Monochrome"?  Can
you tell me something about the book and perhaps venture an opinion on it?
Thanks, Sam
Glass vs glassless carriers?02 Jan 2004 15:12 GMT4
Grateful for advice from the group: why use a glass negative carrier (with the inherent problems of an extra 4 surfaces to clean and potential of Newton rings) when stopping a lens down - even for 6x7 would appear to solve out of focus caused by film curvature?
Thanks

Darkroom paint question02 Jan 2004 09:05 GMT15
Is there a shade of amber paint that would reflect the light from an
amber safelight and absorb all other colours?
Amber paint would make a darkroom brighter than black walls and would
be safer than white walls and ceilings.
Divided D7602 Jan 2004 08:58 GMT6
I'm considering the Formulary's Divided D76, but I have the following
questions:
   1. Why throw the A solution away after 6 mos? I'd think that as long as
there's enough to cover my film, I could use it indefinitely.
Just got a new old dry-mount press02 Jan 2004 08:53 GMT9
For cheap. (It's a big old Seal Corp. monster.) Seems to work; it gets warm.
But one odd thing I don't remember from using these years ago is that when
it's on (when you push down on the bar and trip the microswitch), the red
light blinks. Is this supposed to happen? It seemt to ...
Wetting agents02 Jan 2004 06:32 GMT4
Hi, looking at the MSDS of the most common wetting agents it seems
they are a mixture of anionic and non ionic surfactants. In my lab I
have for example:
oxyethylated nonilphenols
Old  EKTACHROME Infrared Film  E-4 02 Jan 2004 04:20 GMT1
I found 6 rolls of KODAK EKTACHROME Infrared Film in an old box.  It's got
to be 15 years old.  It old E-4.  Can I do anything with it?  I also found
an E-4 gallon kit but some of the containers are bursting.
News Years Resolution02 Jan 2004 02:49 GMT10
I resolve to stop engaging in silly debates.
Then again, I'd have to define "silly."
Oops. broke it already.
Kodak Dektol question01 Jan 2004 17:42 GMT11
Is this developer for B/W paper only?.....or is it for B/W film also?
The reason I ask this question is that I am going to make some contrast
reducing masks using 4x5" TMAX100 film. For masks I need a soft developer
and I was told that I could use Dektol in anout 1:30 (stock ...
testing hydroqunone01 Jan 2004 02:20 GMT5
Is there an easy way to tell if my recently purchased hydroqunone is good?
It doesn't seem to be.
My only thought is to mix up some D72 without the HQ, develop a print and
then add the HQ and develop another.
An open question01 Jan 2004 02:19 GMT24
I spend a great deal of my life trying to produce technically perfect
artistic prints. I suspect that the people who frequent this newsgroup
are doing about the same thing. We are taking pictures then spending a
great deal of time in our darkrooms trying to wring out the utmost
