Beseler 45XMT Troubleshooting07 Dec 2003 05:30 GMT3
I just reassembled a 45XMT with 8x10 kit that was shipped cross country
and had to be stored for a few months. The motor that raises the head seems
to get derailed half way up the frame. Any and all adjustments to the frame
and back braces have been tampered with in one way or ...

What would be the best choice of enlarging lens for 6x7 negatives? Thanks.
Amidol and Glycin06 Dec 2003 05:36 GMT40
Amidol and Glycin have both been mentioned in recent posts. They are
both available from Photographer's Formulary.
Amidol is for prints. It stains and is toxic. Very simple compounding
is one of it's virtues. The agent and sulfite are all that are needed.

Film Length vs Dev. Time05 Dec 2003 17:33 GMT16
Is there a rule of thumb that relates development time to the amount of
film to be developed?
I just did some development tests from 7-frame segments of a 36 exposure
roll.  One test was with the developer I normally use, and to my
Delta 100 mistake on my part HELP05 Dec 2003 16:09 GMT10
I just shot 2 rolls of Delta 100 and exposed it accidentally at iso 800.
I was using a digital camera to check exposure and forgot it was set for
iso 800 ( I shoot at 100 spedd 99.9% of the time so this was overlooked)
So I exposed all my shots at the 800 speed setting.

compact flourescent bulbs in enlargers05 Dec 2003 14:52 GMT12
Now that there are a wide variety of screw base flourescent
bulbs offered, I'm wondering if they might be useful instead
of a 212 or like enlarger bulb.
It would seem that the high blue and green content would make
Forte PolyWT not responding to filtration05 Dec 2003 05:51 GMT14
Forte Polywarmtone RC doesn't seem to be responding to filtration to
increase contrast. I dial in the maximum 130 M (about 190 Kodak CC) on my
Durst Pictochrom and I get the same contrast as with no filtration. I also
tried different filtrations. It's behaving like a graded #2! I ...
Newbie here. how do I develop Kodak C-41 110 film at my house. Which low cost equipment do I need to process my film?05 Dec 2003 03:27 GMT9
I am a newbie here.  I was needing to develop my own Kodak 110 film
C-41 processing.  I don't know much about chemicals to develop film.
Where can I find free information on a darkroom.  Which size of a room
do I need to develop 110 C-41 with low cost equipment. My bedroom size
Calling all chemistry geeks: how to test your washing effectiveness04 Dec 2003 22:51 GMT20
I may have made fun of you guys in the past, with your fascination with
decahydrates, borates, and your bubbling beakers and test tubes down in your
medieval laboratory.
But now I could use your help: is there any way to test the effectiveness of
Mystery El Nikkor Enlarging Lens04 Dec 2003 21:38 GMT9
I have an f/4, 50 mm El Nikkor enlarging lens which I have always
thought is the "standard" f/4 version of this lens.  However, checking
in Hillebrand and Hauschild's "Nikon Compendium", I notice that the El
Nikkor f/4 has an f/stop range of f/4 to f/22 and takes a 40.5 mm filter ...
Newbie question about chemistry04 Dec 2003 20:51 GMT7
I am familiar with the basics of processing a roll of B&W film, i.e.
developing the negatives and making prints.  HOWEVER, I have never
mixed chemistry.  In the near future I plan to begin doing so.
I've done a lot of searching on the internet and reading various books

What material do you recommend using to soften/blur parts of an image while
making a print with your enlarger? A nylon stocking, glass smeared with
Vaseline, or what?
