No rational explanation has yet13 Oct 2003 19:57 GMT143
been put forth arguing why changing negative contrast would be in any
way superior to changing print contrast by changing paper grades.
The zs is predicated on altering negative contrast through expansion
and contraction (increased or decreased devlopment) to fit a single
Scarpitti's fate13 Oct 2003 19:44 GMT20
I vowed I would never killfile anyone.
By his actions and the utterly unforgiveable act of going against my
advice, Michael Scarpitti has earned his place as the first to be
killfiled by me.
C41 neg processing13 Oct 2003 19:03 GMT4
I use a Paterson tank for developing C41 negs but also like to use Tetenal
phototabs. But they work out expensive because the instructions are to use 1
tablet for 150ml of dev - for a 120 film I need 600ml.
Can anyone advise what processor I could get that uses 150ml per film, and
NOVA FB print processor13 Oct 2003 12:37 GMT4
I am thinking of buying a NOVA FB print processor. It seems that you can
leave the chemicals in for an extended period of time, but does anyone
know how long that is. Can you use the developer for a few days, or for
1 or 2 weeks before it needs replacement? Thanks.

Kodalk from borax plus sodium hydroxide ...12 Oct 2003 23:46 GMT31
oct103 from Lloyd Erlick,
Recently the following formula for producing sodium metaborate
(Kodalk) appeared in this ng. I don't understand how a hundred grams
of sodium metaborate comes from about fifty five grams of reagents.
Grain focusser for 4x5?12 Oct 2003 23:44 GMT2
The microsight I'm using is fine with smaller formats but seems
to have problems with 4x5. Eventually I do find the grain but I'm guessing I
need more magnification? Or do I need something totally different?
    Thanks
New Kodak Films Development12 Oct 2003 19:20 GMT2
Very interesting article regarding development of 'new' Kodak films.
According to the lab that made the tests, only a modest difference in
developing times is neccessary, and not the dramatic changes that Kodak
suggested
Let's Put it to a Vote! Oust the Trl12 Oct 2003 16:57 GMT34
Maybe in one last effort to correct all these obnoxious
posts we can pull him back to a less confrontational
participation......but if not.
All those in favor of Kill fileing you know who, add your
Welsh Densichron densitometer12 Oct 2003 16:15 GMT1
I have a 1970's vintage Welsh Densichron transmission densitometer. It seems
to work fine with one exception. The readings are not aligned at the higher
densities. Since the slope of the response is a straight line I could just
multiply by the slope factor. Sort of a pain though, so ...
What did White actually say?12 Oct 2003 11:39 GMT1
I picked up a copy of The Zone System Manual today. (I'll have to wash
my hands later.) Printing is 4th, 1972.

Ahh, liquid emulsion. And some other questions.12 Oct 2003 04:07 GMT11
This stuff is sweeeeeeeeeet.
Ok I have a potentially stupid question so be forewarned...
I am going to do some painting of emulsion on canvas and mask off some
parts of it and then expose it.  My question has to do with exposing
Color Correction Filters / Filtration in Photoshop12 Oct 2003 03:58 GMT10
I shoot slides.  While I do give slide shows, my main objective is
scanning the slides, editing in Photoshop, and producing slide shows
on CD.  Slide film is very sensitive to the color temperture of light.
I have been using tungsten balanced film when the lighting is

No other way. Let's bring this group back to peace.

Awww, man11 Oct 2003 21:47 GMT1
:) I got the morning off and went to our one and only photo store in a 100
mile radius. Wow! They have FG7 and TG7! Gallons and small bottles! oops!
It expired 9/1999. I offered them a nickle on the dollar, and they said
"We will consider the offer." Sure.
