| broken lens - worth repairing ? | 10 Oct 2005 01:23 GMT | 2 |
My canon 90-300 got dropped. I think it's landed on it's faced and this pushed the barrel in a bit. Now it only zooms from around 100 to 300, can't quite get to 90. If i tumble the lens, i can hear something rattling around in side ! No external damage.

| amazing how this industry is shooting itself on the foot... | 09 Oct 2005 16:13 GMT | 27 |
Tamron is *still* an active maker of lenses. They *still* make the adaptall-2 lens system. Film cameras and lenses are *still* being made and used. So is film.

I tried to email these to Doug, but they got bounced, so after working out how to upload them to my ISP, here they are for all to see. WARNING: These are BIG files - 4-6MB, so if you are on dialup they will take an eternity to download (I'm on dialup at the moment, so they took ...

| Sigma 10-20... anybody using one? | 08 Oct 2005 00:16 GMT | 10 |
I shot some tests shots with the Sigma 10-20 and also the Canon 10-22 on my 20D today. I must say that I was quite impressed with the Sigma and thought that it was a tad sharper than the Canon and had a bit better contrast. I also tried my 17-40 on a 5D for similar FOV and it was ...

| Digital noob....camera recommendation please? | 07 Oct 2005 12:15 GMT | 1 |
haven't done much photography since using a Vietnam war era Pentax SLR back in the early 70's, so I guess I'm in the point & shoot class. Now I'm heading back to Thailand and want to take some decent photos, unlike last time.

My wife has decided that she can get better pics with my Nikon D70s than her P&S and keeps "borrowing" it. After discussion we have decided that a D50 will be suitable for her. (Couldn't convince her to keep the D70s

| Film is dying - Hooray!! | 05 Oct 2005 23:04 GMT | 11 |
Well not really. But thanks to one local store that thinks film is on it's last legs, I was able to pick up a bunch of HP5, FP4, Sensia 100 & Sensia 200 for $5/roll of 36. Also got 3 packs of Superia 100/24 exp for $5. As long as there is some fool who thinks film is dying, I ...

| Olympus E300 - Hidden treasure? | 05 Oct 2005 01:51 GMT | 40 |
Annoyed with 20Ds that only switch on when they feel like it. Peeved that a 1D with 24-70 "L" lens, a 580 Speedlite and battery grip is too heavy to use for an all day shoot - hell, it's a handful for a 2 hour shoot!
