Everyone else here shows off when something half works - so my turn.  :-)
What's the standard way to take photos of fireworks?  Long exposure & tripod
seem to be accepted method.  Well, I was not planning to take any shots and
did not have that sort of kit.

Is it possible to disable AF from happening with the shutter release button?
I'd rather AF just be activated with the AF On button on the back.

I have many 35mm slides and a few hundred feet of 8 mm film. Photos are
no problem because I have a Canon Pixma MP170 all-in-one machine. I have
no digital camera but I do have a good quality Leitz slide projector,
